Luis Gil to Throw Live Batting Practice on Tuesday
Luis Gil (lat) is scheduled to throw a live batting practice session on Tuesday with Double-A Somerset, and his minor-league rehab assignment could start this Sunday, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. Gil is expected to throw around 35 pitches during his live BP session on Tuesday after completing bullpen sessions on a regular basis recently. The 27-year-old will need at least a few starts in the minors before the Yankees consider activating him for his 2025 season debut in late July or early August. Gil won the American League Rookie of the Year honors in 2024 with a 3.50 ERA, but his 4.36 xFIP and .237 BABIP shows that he was probably fortunate to be as good as he was last year. He has plenty of strikeout stuff after fanning 26.8% of the batters he faced, but he also had an elevated 12.1% walk rate. Fantasy managers might want to temper expectations upon his return.
