Lane Thomas Goes Hitless in First Rehab Start
Lane Thomas (foot) went 0-for-3 on Tuesday in Double-A Akron with the RubberDucks in his first rehab game back since injuring his foot and being placed on the injured list on July 6. Thomas was diagnosed with right foot plantar fasciitis and has missed a good portion of the season, so, understandably, he got off to a slow start. He started at designated hitter on Tuesday, and he will likely start in the outfield on Wednesday. At this time, the Guardians are four games back in the AL Wild Card Race, so they hope to get Thomas back on the team to try and help with their playoff push. Although the 30-year-old has struggled at the plate this season, slashing .160/.246/.272 in 125 at-bats, he owns a career .242/.309/.418 slash line in seven MLB seasons. He also brings a good arm and speed to the outfield.
