Jarrod Dyson Agrees To Deal With Royals
4 years agoThe Kansas City Royals signed free-agent outfielder Jarrod Dyson to a one-year, $1.5 million deal on Tuesday. The 36-year-old spent his first seven MLB seasons with the Royals, hitting .260 with a .325 on-base percentage and 176 stolen bases in 550 games. He also scored the World Series-clinching run in extra innings against the Mets in 2015. Dyson appeared in 32 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates and Chicago White Sox in the shortened 2020 season, hitting .180/.231/.180 with no homers, five RBI and six stolen bases in 66 plate appearances. The 36-year-old is expected to provide veteran leadership for a rebuilding KC club while also likely serving as the team's fourth outfielder behind Andrew Benintendi, Michael A. Taylor and Whit Merrifield. He can also provide some speed off the bench in a pinch.
