Free-agent starting pitcher James Paxton (back, elbow) reached 94 mph on the radar gun at a throwing session for scouts, according to a source. As many as 20 teams were in attendance to watch him throw after he underwent back surgery in February and suffered a flexor strain during the 2020 season that limited him to only five starts with the Yankees. The left-hander averaged 92.1 mph on his four-seam fastball in 2020, which was down from 95.5 mph in 2019. Paxton can be nasty when healthy, but he's never made 30 starts in a season. He had a rough 6.62 ERA this year, but the 32-year-old had a 3.50 ERA from 2013-19 and an 11.1 K/9 since 2017. Paxton is likely to receive an incentive-laden deal and could become a fine value pick in fantasy drafts if he can work his way past the injury bug in 2021 for whichever team he's pitching for.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBallerRead More News
