Jacob Lopez Goes to 15-Day Injured List
Jacob Lopez (elbow) was placed on the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. Lopez suffered a left elbow sprain during Sunday's game. The southpaw was crushed for nine earned runs over two innings of work during that outing. Despite that, Lopez holds a quality 4.08 ERA and a 113/37 K/BB ratio across 21 games (17 starts) with the A's this season. The organization is hopeful that Lopez can return in mid-September. However, the A's season is basically over, so there is no incentive to rush Lopez back to the mound. In a corresponding move, right-hander Mason Barnett was recalled from Triple-A. It's unclear who is going to take over the vacant spot in the starting rotation.
