J.T. Realmuto Suffers Broken Thumb
4 years agoPhiladelphia Phillies catcher J.T. Realmuto (thumb) suffered a broken thumb on his throwing hand and is expected to miss up to a month. Realmuto should be ready for Opening Day but will be out for a number of spring training games after recently signing a five-year deal worth $115 million to return to Philadelphia. As the consensus top fantasy backstop off the board in the early rounds, this is big news, even if he isn't expected to miss any time to begin the 2021 regular season. There's not much reason to consider dropping him in the catcher rankings, but fantasy managers should keep a close eye on his progress this spring. Realmuto had the highest barrel rate and hard-hit percentage of his career in 2020 and hasn't shown any decline in his hitting skills in recent seasons. Andrew Knapp and Rafael Marchan will see more playing time in camp with Realmuto sidelined.
