Hayden Birdsong Falters Early in Loss to Marlins
Hayden Birdsong allowed four hits and seven earned runs across four innings in his team's 12-5 loss to the Miami Marlins. He walked four, hit a batter, and struck out one. This was easily the former sixth-round pick's worst outing of the season, as the Marlins got to him early and often on Thursday. Birdsong had been stellar throughout 2025, but has now yielded 11 earned runs over his last 8 1/3 innings. At the start of the month, the 23-year-old boasted a 2.37 ERA. That's risen in each subsequent start to an unattractive 4.13. He'll carry that, a 1.38 WHIP, and a 3-2 record into his next trip to the mound -- a meeting with the hosting Arizona Diamondbacks early next week.
