Gardner Minshew Could Play Over Anthony Richardson Early On
1 year agoIndianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay hinted that quarterback Gardner Minshew could start over rookie Anthony Richardson early in the 2023 season, although Irsay also stressed the importance of getting Richardson on the field in his rookie campaign. "For Anthony, we know it's going to be tough. But he has to play to get better. There's no question. Gardner could play better early on, him just being a veteran. But we have to get Anthony on the field. That's Shane's call when he decides," Irsay said. Richardson, the No. 4 overall pick in this year's draft, is expected to need plenty of development before he reaches his ceiling. Playing time might not come right away, but it's expected to come eventually in 2023. The 21-year-old is a physical freak, but he's probably not worth a redraft selection as a QB2 in his first NFL season.
