Washington Capitals defenseman Erik Gustafsson became an unlikely hat-trick hero in Saturday's matchup against Toronto, lifting the team to a 5-2 victory. He had one goal in each period and these are his first markers of the campaign. The Swedish blue-liner was plus-three for the game and added five shots, one block and two hits to his line in 19:13 of ice time. Prior to Gustafsson, only two Capitals defensemen had scored a regular-season hat trick, and Sergei Gonchar was the last one to do it in 2000. It was a great performance from the 30-year-old, but fantasy managers shouldn't get too excited, as Gustafsson previously needed 13 outings to grab three points, and he's managed just 13 points in 32 games for the whole season.--Taavi Pailk - RotoBaller
