Jay Bruce Should Benefit From Change In Swing
7 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce is coming off a career year in 2017 that saw him set new highs across the board (except steals…but we’ll let him have a pass there) for both the New York Mets and the Cleveland Indians. Bruce slashed .254/.324/.508 with 36 home runs, 82 runs scored, and 101 RBI across 617 plate appearances in his contract year. While some may attribute the success to his impending free agency, there may be more to it than that. Bruce changed his swing to feature a more upward trajectory in 2017 to join in on the fly ball craze sweeping baseball. Considering his fly ball rate of 46.7% was his highest since 2009 (when he had half the plate appearances he had in 2017), we’re inclined to believe it. While may not once again set career-bests across the board, Bruce should be well worth the mid-round draft pick investment to be a part of your fantasy outfield (he’ll have first base eligibility on some platforms, too). Welcome back to Queens, Jay.
