Carson Spiers to Undergo Season-Ending Elbow Surgery
Carson Spiers (elbow, shoulder) will undergo season-ending surgery on his UCL, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports. It's not yet clear whether Spiers will have Tommy John surgery or an internal-brace procedure. Spiers logged three appearances (two starts) and pitched to a 6.08 ERA with 11:7 K:BB in 13 1/3 innings before landing on the injured list with a shoulder impingement on April 20. The 27-year-old had been working back from that injury in the minors, but he felt soreness in his right biceps during a Triple-A start on July 19. That will go down as the last outing of the season for Spiers.
