Buccaneers Fire Offensive Coordinator Byron Leftwich
2 years agoThe Tampa Bay Buccaneers officially fired offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich on Thursday. The team is making sweeping changes to their coaching staff following an 8-9 regular season and wild-card loss to the Dallas Cowboys. As many as five offensive assistants and two on defense are expected to be fired in addition to Leftwich. Leftwich began his tenure in Tampa in 2019 with head coach Bruce Arians and led the league's No. 1 passing offense and third-ranked unit in total yards per game with Jameis Winston at quarterback. With Tom Brady in 2020, the Bucs won the Super Bowl and finished seventh in yards per game (second in passing). The Bucs offense was elite again in 2021, but injuries to the offensive line took their toll this year and the team had the worst rushing offense in the NFL.
