Boston Extends Qualifying Offer To Eduardo Rodriguez
3 years agoThe Boston Red Sox extended a one-year, $18.4 million qualifying offer to left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez on Sunday. If Rodriguez rejects the offer, the Red Sox would receive draft-pick compensation if the southpaw signs with another team in free agency. Rodriguez had an up-and-down 2021 season for Boston, going 13-8 with a career-high 4.74 ERA (3.32 FIP), 1.39 WHIP, 185 strikeouts and 47 walks in 157 2/3 innings over 32 games (31 starts). Beneath the surface stats, E-Rod had solid strikeout, walk and hard-hit rates, and his BABIP also sat at a bloated .363, showing that he was a bit unlucky in the end. He doesn't turn 29 years old until next April and was able to stay healthy in 2021 despite missing all of 2020 due to a heart condition caused by COVID-19. Fantasy managers could get some nice value with Rodriguez in 2022 drafts.
