Alex Smith Trending In The Wrong Direction?
4 years agoThe sense from the Washington Football Team this week has been that it would be challenging for quarterback Alex Smith (calf) to return from his calf injury in Week 16 against the Panthers. As of Thursday, Dwayne Haskins Jr. is taking the starting repetitions at practice and is tracking to start on Sunday against Carolina. Smith was limited on Wednesday and was throwing to receivers during the individual portion of practice on Thursday. The veteran QB hasn't been ruled out yet for Week 16, but it doesn't sound promising that he'll play. Haskins threw for almost 300 yards last week and will give wide receiver Terry McLaurin more upside, but he should only be considered a low-end QB2 in superflex leagues. We should know more about Smith's status on Friday.
