NFL running back Matt Breida is a potential 2020 fantasy football sleeper and ADP draft value. Target him as an undervalued RB in fantasy football drafts.
BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~95 Overall
CURRENT ADP: ~110
ANALYSIS: Miami could have thrown the 2019 season down the sink, but even with their middling roster and chances at achieving anything of substance they played for the win every single week and finished with a 5-11 record on the season. The rebuilding effort keeps as active as anything in South Beach, that's for sure, but things look to be pointing in the right direction. One of the additions to the roster this offseason has been running back Matt Breida. Another one, though, is fellow RB Jordan Howard.
Breida played for the 49ers in 2019 and ran the ball effectively as he carried it 123 times for 623 yards and a single touchdown. His biggest appeal comes from his pass-catching prowess, though, as he finished the year in the 89th percentile among skill-position players in terms of catch rate with an 86.4 percent of receptions/targets. All in all, that translated to 19 catches on 22 targets for 122 yards. Breida's main competition will be Jordan Howard, who was targeted all of... 14 times in 2019 with the Eagles. In other words, Howard will not be a threat to Breida in the Dolphins' passing game.
Beat writers covering the Dolphins are projecting a 65/35 split in touches from the backfield in favor of Howard. At the end of the day, Breida should be the RB2 with a lower opportunity share on the ground but a higher one on passing plays. While getting drafted around the 9th round (RB37), Breida projects to finish somewhere near 120 PPR in 2020 per PFF latest projections, good for RB46. You see the gap there.
I would advise getting Breida as a potential great handcuff if Howard misses games or flops, but not using a top-10 round pick on him and wait a bit to get him. If you miss on him or get snipped, don't dwell on it. Breida's upside is not horrid but he is not a surefire value poised to win you the league either.
