ANALYSIS: After letting 1,000-yard rusher Rico Dowdle walk in free agency, the Cowboys opted ot turn to veteran Javonte Williams to fill that role in the backfield. While Miles Sanders and rookie Jaydon Blue could eventually carve out a larger role, for the time being, it appears to be Williams's backfield.
In Week 1, Williams led the way as he ran the ball 15 times for 54 yards and two scores. In the air, Williams caught two of his three targets for 10 yards. In this contest, Sanders logged just 14% of the team's snaps and ran the ball only four times while Blue was a healthy scratch.
Seeing Williams dominate the backfield and log 80% of the team's total snaps is an excellent sign of his fantasy outlook. While he does not possess the breakaway speed he once had, his volume will give him some strong RB2 value heading into Week 2. This weekend, he will face the New York Giants, who allowed 82 yards and a score to Washington rookie Jacory Croskey-Merritt in Week 1.
Given that the Cowboys will likely spend most of the game in the red zone, Williams seems primed to punch in another score and be given ample opportunities to run out the clock in the second half. He is a high-volume RB2 play in Week 2.
