ANALYSIS: With the potential season-ending injury for superstar Ravens TE Mark Andrews, it’s second-year TE Isaiah Likely who’s being called to step up in his place. That came on display on Sunday night when Likely assumed the starting TE position for Baltimore in their 20-10 win on the road against the Los Angeles Chargers.
The former Coastal Carolina Chanticleer answered the call by leading the Ravens in receiving yards on the night. Likely finished with four receptions for 40 total yards, seeing six targets in the process.
QB Lamar Jackson has loved to target the tight end position throughout the years. We’ve seen that on display in the past two seasons when Andrews finished in the top three of total targets at the position for the 2021 and 2022 seasons, respectively.
It’s worth noting that these are not the same offensive schemes the Ravens have had in years past and Likely is not the same player as Andrews. That being said, Likely is an incredibly athletic pass-catcher and last night’s performance proved that he is a trusted target for Lamar moving forward.
Likely has served as a direct replacement when Andrews has missed time. In games Andrews has missed dating back to last season, Likely has averaged roughly 41 yards per game on three receptions. This includes a 103-yard, eight-catch outing in Week 18 of last year.
Last night, Likely saw a 73% snap share and a 93.8% route participation. This type of usage at such a scarce position like tight end won’t be available on the waiver wire for the rest of the season. Fantasy managers should look to pick up Likely as a viable plug-and-play option for the rest of the season.
