Quarterback Drew Lock was shipped to the Seattle Seahawks in the blockbuster deal that sent Russell Wilson to the Denver Broncos. Many assumed Lock would be the starter for Pete Carrol's team in 2022 since Geno Smith hadn't been a full-time starter in almost a decade.

However, Smith was named the Week 1 starter and kept his job all the way through his Pro Bowl season en route to a playoff berth. Now, Lock's future is uncertain as he could be on a new team in 2023.

Is Drew Lock a Free Agent in 2023?

Since Lock was selected in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft by Denver, he signed a four-year deal, meaning he'll be a free agent during the 2023 offseason.

During his three-year stint in Denver, Lock started 21 games, posting 4,740 passing yards, 25 passing touchdowns, and 20 interceptions. He went 8-13 in those 21 starts. He lost the starting job to Teddy Bridgewater in 2021 before being traded to Seattle for the 2022 season.

Needless to say, he doesn't have the prettiest resume, but there are sure to be some teams interested in him as a backup signal-caller.

Which Team Will Sign Lock?

It's unclear how many teams will look to upgrade the backup quarterback position in free agency, but Lock will have competition in players like Baker Mayfield, Sam Darnold, Mike White, Jacoby Brissett, and Teddy Bridgewater.

It's one of the better backup QB markets we've seen in a while, so Lock is unlikely to land somewhere he can start, even as a bridge QB. His best case is landing in a spot behind an often-injured quarterback like Tua Tagovailoa, Jimmy Garoppolo, or Dak Prescott.

However, he's more likely to be one of the least-desirable bench quarterbacks, so he'll probably be at the mercy of the few teams who missed out on guys like Bridgewater and Brissett.
