Fantasy Baseball Prospects Stash List: Ready to Make a Splash for Redraft Leagues (Week 8)

We are at the point in the season where MLB teams are starting to call up their top prospects. The Cubs called up both Cade Horton and Moises Ballesteros over the past week, and the Dodgers promoted their top prospect, Dalton Rushing, just a few days ago. With more players continuing to land on the injured list, we could see more prospects be called up in the coming weeks. 

In this article, we will focus on five prospects fantasy managers should be thinking of stashing ahead of Week 8. To keep new names on this list, most of the prospects featured last week will not be talked about again. However, prospects like Roman Anthony and Bubba Chandler should be added in every league before their promotion. 

So, which other prospects should fantasy managers stash for Week 8 of the fantasy baseball season? Let's dive in and find out.

Jacob Misiorowski, SP, Milwaukee Brewers

There's not much left that starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski has to prove down in Triple-A. He currently owns a 1.46 ERA and 59 strikeouts across nine appearances (eight starts) at Triple-A Nashville this season. The right-hander is also coming off his longest start of the year, throwing seven innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts against Triple-A Memphis on Thursday. 

The Brewers' No. 4 prospect has been fantastic on the mound in 2025 and hasn't allowed more than one run across his last five starts. During this span, Misiorowski has given up just two earned runs across his last 30 innings pitched to go with seven walks and 38 strikeouts. Therefore, the 6-foot-7 pitcher is knocking on the door of a promotion.

He hasn't given up much hard contact this season and looks MLB-ready. Although he dealt with a bit of command issues earlier in the year, Misiorowski has issued one walk or fewer in four of his last five outings. That makes him a strong stash candidate in most 12-plus team leagues heading into Week 8. 

It's only a matter of time until the Brewers call up their top pitching prospect, especially since they could use a fresh arm. Brandon Woodruff (ankle/shoulder), Jose Quintana (shoulder), and Nestor Cortes (elbow) are all currently on the IL. With Quinn Priester also struggling as a starter, Misiorowski's time could be coming. 

Matt Shaw, 3B, Chicago Cubs 

There is a strong chance that the Chicago Cubs will call up third baseman Matt Shaw before the end of this month. There's also a possibility that he will be promoted sometime next week, given his recent offensive numbers at Triple-A Iowa. Shaw is currently slashing .284/.408/.519 with four home runs, five doubles, 11 RBI, and five stolen bases in 22 games. 

It is a nice sign to see Shaw tearing it up at Triple-A following a rough first stint in the majors. MLB Pipeline's No. 18 overall prospect hit just .172 with one home run, three RBI, and 18 strikeouts in his first 18 career games this season. His metrics also ranked extremely poor across those 18 contests, as his 2.5% barrel rate, 22.5% hard-hit rate, and 30.8% whiff rate were a major factor in his struggles. 

However, Shaw should be back up in the majors very soon. The 23-year-old hit both a leadoff home run and a walk-off home run in Thursday's Triple-A win, and Chicago isn't getting much production from its current third base group (Jon Berti, Nicky Lopez, and Vidal Brujan). As a result, the Cubs' top prospect should be stashed in most leagues right now. 

He could be promoted as soon as next week and has the potential to be a solid fantasy option the rest of the year. With his 28.8 ft/sec sprint speed, Shaw could easily hit 15 home runs and steal at least 15 bases in 2025. 

Zebby Matthews, SP, Minnesota Twins 

Fantasy managers have been waiting patiently for the Twins to call up Zebby Matthews. The right-hander has posted strong numbers at Triple-A St. Paul this season and continues to show his potential down in the minors. Matthews owns a 1.93 ERA and 38 strikeouts in his first seven starts in 2025. 

Given his strong pitching numbers, it's not a surprise that the Twins plan to call him up ahead of Sunday's series finale against the Milwaukee Brewers. With the team optioning Simeon Woods Richardson on Thursday, the team plans to promote Matthews from Triple-A to start on Sunday. Therefore, he is a strong stash candidate heading into the weekend.

The 24-year-old has added velocity on his fastball and has allowed two runs or fewer in all seven of his starts in 2025. Although Matthews finished with a 6.69 ERA in nine major league starts last year, it was encouraging that he had a 6.2% walk rate in those nine outings. 

So, Matthews is worth an add in most formats before officially being called up on Sunday. He has the chance to be a solid fantasy option in 2025 and should take Woods Richardson's No. 5 spot in Minnesota's rotation moving forward. 

Marcelo Mayer, SS, Boston Red Sox

Shortstop Marcelo Mayer will make his MLB debut at some point this season. He is currently posting solid numbers at Triple-A Worcester and has shown his upside at every minor league level over the past five years. Mayer has a .274 batting average with eight home runs, 39 RBI, and one stolen base across 37 games in 2025.

So, we could see MLB Pipeline's No. 9 overall prospect be promoted within the next few months. The biggest concern with Mayer, though, is the fact that there really isn't anywhere for him to play in the field. With Trevor Story (shortstop), Kristian Campbell (second base), and Alex Bregman (third base) occupying those three spots in the infield, it might be a few months until Mayer is up with the club. 

However, it is important to note that Campbell took part in first base drills on Friday. If the Red Sox eventually move the rookie to first base, that would open up a spot for Mayer in the infield. That makes Boston's No. 2 prospect a solid stash candidate heading into Week 8 of the fantasy baseball season.

The 22-year-old has the potential to contribute solid all-around numbers right away, and his time in the majors should come sometime in the next few months. So, fantasy managers should stash him in some 12-plus team leagues. 

Samuel Basallo, C/1B, Baltimore Orioles

Catcher Samuel Basallo is one of the youngest players currently in Triple-A.  The Orioles' top prospect won't turn 21 years old until August. However, he continues to hit the ball well down at Triple-A Norfolk. He is slashing .253/.341/.570 with seven home runs, four doubles, and 15 RBI across 23 games this season. 

Basallo is also seeing the ball well as of late. In his last eight games, MLB Pipeline's No. 16 overall prospect is 10-for-31 (.323 batting average) with four home runs and nine RBI. While he likely won't be called up anytime soon, there is a chance that he will be promoted to the big league roster later this summer. 

As a result, Basallo is someone fantasy managers should be monitoring over the next few months. He could make an immediate impact in the majors when he is eventually called up, considering he has hit at least 19 home runs and stolen double-digit bases in back-to-back minor league seasons in 2023 and 2024. 

Just be patient, though, because Basallo likely won't be called up until August at the earliest.
