Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Hitters to Target

Braden Montgomery, OF, Chicago White Sox

38% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~12-15%

Chicago White Sox outfielder Braden Montgomery has made an immediate impact in the big leagues. Since being called up by the White Sox earlier this week, Montgomery is 4-for-12 at the plate with one run, two doubles, three runs scored, and four RBI in his first three career games. Those are strong numbers for a 23-year-old rookie in his first taste of Major League ball.

This type of success is also not unusual for Montgomery. He had a .314/.422/.548 slash line with 10 home runs, 13 doubles, three triples, and 41 RBI in his first 56 games in the minors this season, and had an encouraging 93.2 mph average exit velocity, 53.8% hard-hit rate, and 10% barrel rate in his time short at Triple-A. The talent and opportunities are both there for the rookie to be a viable fantasy option in Year 1.

Bryce Eldridge, 1B, San Francisco Giants

28% rostered
FAAB Bid: 8-10%

San Francisco Giants first baseman Bryce Eldridge has been one of the hottest young hitters in the game over the past few weeks. He's batting an impressive .392 (29-for-74) with four home runs, nine doubles, and 12 RBI over his last 21 games since May 18. For some reason, though, Eldridge is still rostered in over 70% of Yahoo! leagues.

That simply shouldn't be the case for a hitter of Eldridge's potential. He has a .299 expected batting average, a .518 expected slugging, a 92 mph average exit velocity, and a 56.3% hard-hit rate in his 29 games with the Giants this season and posted elite numbers at Triple-A Sacramento before his promotion. The lefty slugger had a .963 OPS and five home runs in 30 games in Sacramento.

Dalton Rushing, C, Los Angeles Dodgers

26% rostered

FAAB Bid: ~2%

Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing is expected to see the bulk of the catching opportunities moving forward. Will Smith was recently placed on the 10-day injured list due to a stiff neck, and it is unclear whether Smith will be eligible to return once his 10 days are up later next week. In the meantime, Rushing will fill in for Smith as the Dodgers' full-time closer.

That's enough reason to add the 25-year-old catcher until Smith returns. Rushing is slashing .277/.362/.536 with eight home runs and 21 RBI across 38 games this season. He has displayed his power in his limited plate appearances and currently owns a .276 expected batting average. If you are in need of a catcher, the Dodgers backstopper is a nice grab off waivers.

Alejandro Kirk, C, Toronto Blue Jays

26% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~5-7%

The Toronto Blue Jays welcomed back Alejandro Kirk from the injured list on Friday evening. In his first game back, Kirk went 3-for-3 with one double, one run scored, two RBI, and one walk. After spending over two months on the injured list due to a fractured/dislocated left thumb from April 4 to June 11, the All-Star catcher wasted no time showing his potential in this Toronto lineup.

As a result, Kirk is the best catcher add of the week. He batted .282 with 15 home runs, 18 doubles, 76 RBI, and one stolen base across 130 games last year and should remain a solid fantasy option now that he is finally healthy again. If you are in need of a catcher, spending around 5-7% of your remaining FAAB is ideal.

Cole Carrigg, OF, Colorado Rockies

8% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~5%

The Colorado Rockies called up their No. 6 prospect, Cole Carrigg, earlier this week to provide a spark in their lineup, and Carrigg has done just that. He is 4-for-15 with two home runs, one triple, four RBI, one walk, and four strikeouts in his first four career games and just launched a big-time home run in a key spot in the Rockies' eventual loss to the Athletics on Friday evening.

Given the way Carrigg has been hitting the ball in his short time in the big leagues, he's worth a look in some 12+ team leagues. He was absolutely lacing the ball at Triple-A to start the season with a .338/.414/.529 slash line, and the rookie has some massive stolen base upside as well. The Rockies outfielder stole 53 bases in 2024, stole 46 bases last year, and had 30 stolen bases in 57 games with the Albuquerque Isotopes this year.

Blaze Jordan, 1B/3B, St. Louis Cardinals

2% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~2-5%

The St. Louis Cardinals made a pretty big move before Friday's game against the Twins by optioning lefty slugger Nolan Gorman to Triple-A and calling up their No. 26 prospect, Blaze Jordan. Jordan had a .313 batting average, 11 home runs, 19 doubles, and 35 RBI across 57 games at Triple-A Memphis before his promotion.

The 23-year-old was then placed into the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Twins, where he went 2-for-4 with one RBI in his MLB debut. The potential is there for Jordan to emerge as a consistent fantasy option this year. His power came together in the minors last season with a career-high 19 long balls, and he had an 88th percentile zone-swing rate at Triple-A to start the season.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers to Target

Dustin May, SP, St. Louis Cardinals

32% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~5%

St. Louis Cardinals starting pitcher Dustin May got off to a rough start on his new team. He allowed 13 earned runs across 7 1/3 innings pitched in his first two starts, but he has been really consistent on the mound since then. May has a 2.89 ERA and 59 strikeouts in his last 11 starts dating back to April 10. That makes the Cardinals right-hander a solid add in all 12-team leagues.

What has been most impressive with May over the last few weeks has been his increased strikeout rate. He has struck out at least six batters in each of his last four starts, and his strikeout rate since May 1 sits at a respectable 25.7%. With May's fastball becoming a weapon for him on the mound again, he's a nice pickup. The 28-year-old has a 93rd percentile Fastball Run Value on Baseball Savant.

Brandon Young, SP, Baltimore Orioles

15% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~2-4%

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Brandon Young deserves some credit for the way he has thrown the ball lately. Young has a 2.59 ERA and 33 strikeouts since the beginning of May and has given up three runs or fewer in seven consecutive outings. In his most recent start against the Mariners, he threw seven shutout innings with five strikeouts.

Young is definitely in a groove right now on the mound, as he has pitched into the seventh inning in four consecutive outings. He has a 1.69 ERA during this four-start stretch and continues to get hitters to chase outside the zone (35.4%). While his metrics suggest some massive regression is eventually headed his way, fantasy managers should ride with him until it does.

Mick Abel, SP, Minnesota Twins

15% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~7%

Minnesota Twins starting pitcher Mick Abel is getting close to a return. The 24-year-old has been on the shelf since April 20 due to right elbow inflammation, but his return is on the horizon. Abel threw three scoreless innings with five strikeouts in his first rehab assignment outing at Triple-A St. Paul earlier this week.

With Abel expected to return within the next few weeks, fantasy managers should look to grab him now while he is still on the IL. Before his injury in mid-April, the Twins right-hander was starting to take off. He threw six shutout innings with six strikeouts against the Tigers on April 9 and seven scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts against the Red Sox on April 14. He's a strong stash candidate.

Caleb Kilian, RP, San Francisco Giants

8% rostered
FAAB Bid: ~7-10% if you need saves

San Francisco Giants manager Tony Vitello finally named reliever Caleb Kilian as the team's closer moving forward. Although Kilian has seen save chances over the past month, the young right-hander will now be the full-time closer for the Giants. If you are someone who needs some saves in your category leagues, Kilian is almost a must-pickup at this point in the season.

He has a solid 3.34 ERA to go with a .227 expected batting average against, 87.8 mph average exit velocity, 31.3% chase rate, 26.6% whiff rate, 25.8% strikeout rate across 28 appearances this season. Kilian might be the closer on a Giants team that has the second-worst record in the National League, but saves are a premium in category leagues.
