Devin Singletary's fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 14 (2023). Our advice on whether you should start or sit Devin Singletary for fantasy lineups.
BALLER MOVE: Start in 14+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB3
ANALYSIS: Houston Texans RB Devin Singletary made for an excellent start in fantasy lineups in Weeks 10 and 11 when he assumed the starting role in place of an injured Dameon Pierce.
In those matchups, Singletary ran for a total of 262 yards and two touchdowns. He finished as the RB3 and RB4 in those weeks, respectively.
But with the return of Pierce to the Texans’ backfield, Singletary’s role has been dramatically reduced despite his success in the previous weeks. In Pierce’s Week 12 return, Singletary saw only six carries for a total of 18 yards. He was able to make due in the receiving game, where he reeled in six of his seven targets for a total of 54 receiving yards.
The scales tipped even further in Pierce’s direction in the team’s Week 13 win against the Denver Broncos. Pierce outcarried Singletary by a margin of 15 to eight, where Singletary finished with only 40 total yards from scrimmage.
Since Pierce’s return, Singletary has also lost red zone duties for Houston. Pierce saw all three of the Texans' carries inside of the ten-yard line in their Week 13 win and scored the team’s lone rushing touchdown.
With his volume diminishing, he now gets ready for a Week 14 matchup against the New York Jets. The Jets have made for a decent matchup for opposing fantasy running backs, allowing the seventh most points to the position. They’ve also allowed an average of 136.1 rushing yards per game, the fifth-highest in the league.
Singletary’s downtick in volume and red zone usage should have fantasy managers in most formats benching the fifth-year veteran. Managers in deeper leagues in need of a flex option can look his way in hopes that he can make up some ground in the receiving game.
