Bears wide receiver (WR) Darnell Mooney is a fantasy football waiver wire pickup to target as a free agent addition for Week 5 of the 2020 NFL season.
BALLER MOVE: Add in 14+ PPR Team Leagues
ROSTERED: 1% of Leagues
ANALYSIS: Somehow, fantasy GMs keep forgetting about Darnell Money and have him rostered in just 1 percent of Yahoo! leagues, which is to say have him pretty much unrostered at all. See, Chicago is far from a great team, has already benched its QB1 to start the year, and although the Bears are 3-1 in 2020 they're far from a .750 franchise. While that is true, it is also correct that the Bears have not much more than Allen Robinson Jr. and Anthony Miller when it comes to wideouts, so Mooney has found a strong role that he should hold onto going forward.
Mooney had his first good game in Week 2 when he caught 3-of-3 targets for 36 yards and his lone touchdown of the year. He's been a weekly writeup for the WW blog here since then, and although he had a meh performance in W3, he came back to his good ways last weekend. In Week 4 Mooney was targeted a season-high 9 times and he hauled in 5 receptions for 52 yards (also his season-high).
The volume has grown weekly from 3 targets in each of the first two weeks to 5 and then 9 this last weekend. Mooney is carrying a good catch rate of 65% and we'll see if he can keep it up or improve on it with greater opportunities going his way. Mooney's 12.8 aDOT rank inside the 80th percentile among WR/TEs targeted at least 10 times through W4.
Mooney was already a good FLEX target for deeper-league GMs, but now that he's seeing more targets than ever and with QB Nick Foles manning the pocket his upside has gone up a notch and he should be taken into serious consideration in any format with 14+ teams.
