ANALYSIS:
Rupp was a popular sleeper heading into the season, but thanks to a slow start, he is very low-owned. However, since April 27, his average has risen from .170 to .263 and he has been a season-long standout for those in OBP leagues with a .362 OBP. That same patience has worked against him as well, however, as he has been less aggressive at the plate leading to lower counting stat numbers and more strikeouts.
Most of his power peripherals look similar to last year: his flyball rate, HR/FB rate, and hard contact are all similar or better than last year, meaning he is a valuable option for power behind the plate. For those who were hoping for Rupp to take a step forward, that no longer seems likely. However, Rupp does have a .929 OPS over the last seven days and two of his three home runs this season have come over the last two weeks. There are many catchers injured or struggling right now, so Rupp can step in to be a valuable fantasy asset. There are very few catchers that are worthy of holding onto for the whole season, so drop Rupp when his hot streak ends.
