NFL rookie Cam Akers is a 2020 running back sleeper and fantasy football ADP draft value. Target him as an undervalued RB in your fantasy football drafts.
BALLER MOVE: Target Around ~52 Overall
CURRENT ADP:~69
ANALYSIS: If there is a team lacking depth at the running back position entering 2020 that must be the Los Angeles Rams. I mean, look at their depth chart. Other than Cam Akers, the names read Darrell Henderson (second-year rusher with 39 runs last season), Malcolm Brown (entering his sixth season as a pro averaging 2.9 PPG in his career)... and that's it. That’s all Sean McVay has to work with this season. It’s literally Cam Akers and no one else.
What can (Malcolm) Brown do for you? Not much. He’s never reached 70 carries in five seasons in the league and only averaged over 4+ YPC once. You can also avert your eyes when you look at Darrell Henderson’s 2019 stat line. His ugly 3.8 YPC forced the Rams into using the short passing game with Cooper Kupp to replace their ineffective running game while they tried to keep Todd Gurley in bubble wrap.
The main point here is no matter what you think of Cam Akers, the job is his by default because there is no one else on this roster capable of carrying the team from the backfield. McVay has shown a clear preference for playing with pace on offense to prevent defensive substitutions. This means there’s really no place for a 3rd down satellite back to take hold in his offense. Cam Akers may not be the most complete RB coming out of the draft, but the bare cupboard in LA and the draft spot he was taken at (2nd round, 52 overall) dictates that he should have a significant role in 2020.
Expect the 4.47 speedster’s draft stock to rise from the 60-70 range as we get closer to the season while PFF has him projected to finish the year with around 146+ PPR and as a borderline RB2 through 16 games.

We're through 11 weeks of NFL action in 2025, and the running back position remains one where it's difficult to find value. This happens every season, of course -- many RBs that were thought to be set up for good seasons have underperformed, and yet others have been injured. If you had New York Giants […]

We're through 11 weeks of NFL football in 2025, but it's never too late to hunt the waiver wire for pickups that could legitimately save your fantasy teams. Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickups - Parker Washington, Christian Watson, Darnell Mooney Fantasy Football Outlooks
It's generally more forgiving in fantasy football to whiff on your wide receiver picks in the draft, because you can find more value on the waiver wire. Week 12 Waiver Wire Pickups - Devin Singletary, Bhayshul Tuten, Chris Rodriguez Jr. Fantasy Football Outlooks
The running back position is one of major scarcity in fantasy football. Even though it's so tough to find startable running backs after the draft, though, things do change over the course of the season. We often see players take bigger shares of their backfield work or simply take over starting jobs in their backfields, […]
Week 11 Waiver Wire Pickups - Darius Slayton, Kyle Williams, Chris Godwin Fantasy Football Outlooks
Injuries and bye weeks continue to force fantasy managers to adjust their lineups on the fly. That is especially important with just three weeks left (for most) in the fantasy regular season.
