Blank Gameweek 29 Preview - Fantasy Premier League 2024-25 Tips and Captaincy Picks

Gameweek Tips - Fantasy Premier League, Soccer

This article provides a preview of what Gameweek 29 has in store for fantasy managers, including top captain selections and strong picks for the weekly FPL Challenge game.

Mohamed Salah broke his own FPL record in Gameweek 28 with a 15-point haul against Southampton. However, the Egyptian King and his Liverpool teammates, as well as players from Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Crystal Palace, will be absent from our FPL teams due to a blank game week this weekend.

The FPL Challenge introduces a new event series called the 7-A-Side Series, where managers can select a team of seven, with different tasks assigned each week. As always, we’ll offer weekly breakdowns of the top assets to target and help you maximize your point potential.

The Gameweek 29 deadline for the 2024-25 Fantasy Premier League season is Saturday, March 15, at 9:30 a.m. EDT. Also, check out the rest of our excellent soccer coverage as the squad gets you all set for every EPL and UCL slate with our EPL DFS lineup picks and betting picks.

Gameweek 29 FPL Tips

Target Man City, Nottingham Forest and Bournemouth Assets

With a top-four race on the line, Manchester City and Nottingham Forest both need a win this weekend to boost their chances of playing in the Champions League next season.

Manchester City will face an uphill task against an in-form Brighton side that has won four of their last five matches. Nottingham Forest will have it easier against relegation favorites Ipswich, who have conceded 58 goals this season.

The same motive may be applied to AFC Bournemouth this weekend. Bournemouth has only won one of their last five games and hosts Brentford at the Vitality Stadium this Saturday.

Bournemouth have never beaten Brentford in the Premier League. Regardless of history, this matchup has resulted in 12 goals in the last three meetings. This suggests that there may be a lot of goals scored in this encounter on Saturday.

Will the Cherries break the curse against the Bees, or will they get stung again? Only time will tell. To this end, FPL managers are advised to prioritize selecting assets from Man City, Nottingham Forest, or Bournemouth for Gameweek 29.

According to goal projections, Man City is projected to produce a 2.20 xG (expected goals), 1.65 xG for Nottingham Forest, and 2.15 xG for Bournemouth against their respective opponents in Gameweek 29.

Recommended FPL assets for attacking returns:

  • Man City: Erling Haaland (on pens), Phil Foden, and Josko Gvardiol.
  • Nottingham Forest: Chris Wood (on pens), Anthony Elanga, and Ola Aina.
  • Bournemouth: Justin Kluivert (on pens), Evanilson, and Milos Kerkez.

Gameweek 29 Top Captain Picks

The midweek fixtures present a list of fascinating options for your captaincy choice. Players like Chris Wood against Ipswich, Bruno Fernandes against Leicester, and Martin Ødegaard against Newcastle present strong cases. However, my top two picks would be:

Erling Haaland (£14.7m) - Man City

Placed in the top 10 FPL rankings with 164 points and 20 league goals scored for Manchester City this season. Erling Haaland ascends to the top of our captaincy picks this week, courtesy of a home fixture against Brighton.

Topping the player goal projections of 0.79 xG (expected goals) this week and boasting a record of four goals scored in his last four outings against the Seagulls. Haaland is favored as our RotoBaller captain of the week.

Justin Kluivert (£6.2m) - Bournemouth

In his last five games, the Dutch international has contributed three attacking returns and leads Bournemouth in points. With a favorable home tie against Brentford, Kluivert will be eager to get on the scoresheet this weekend.

FPL Challenge: 7-A-Side Series

The FPL Challenge section for the 2024-25 season is back, and RotoBaller remains your go-to source for valuable insights on selecting the right assets for any challenge.

The 28th challenge, "Double Down," focused on selecting a Premier League manager's team that earned double points for every return. A new event series is underway, and our job is to help you maximize points for each task presented.

Here is a breakdown of what to expect from the FPL Challenge: 7-a-side series.

The 7-A-Side event is a four-gameweek run that highlights the top performers in each position while picking at least seven players. This series covers four tests focusing on earning points through different players and play styles.

  • Gameweek 29: 7-A-Side - Unlimited budget, 7-a-side.
  • Gameweek 30: Fortified Front - Only midfielders and strikers allowed.
  • Gameweek 31: Park The Bus - Only goalkeepers and defenders allowed.
  • Gameweek 32: All-Rounder - Must use the formation 2-2-2.

7-A-Side FPL Challenge: Players to Target

Week 29 of the FPL Challenge involves selecting a team of seven players with an unlimited budget.

RotoBaller's top picks for this week's challenge are:

  • In goal, Matz Sels is our top goalkeeper of the week.
  • In defense, Jurrien Timber and Milos Kerkez are two defenders who are solid defensive assets to bank on for this week's task.
  • In midfield, Bruno Fernandes and Justin Kluivert are our top midfield options.
  • A duo of Erling Haaland and Chris Wood completes the attack, and Haaland takes the spotlight as our captain of the week, rounding off our lineup in a 2-2-2 formation.

Remember, you are free to select any other top FPL Challenge alternatives not mentioned above. Best of luck to everyone participating in this week's challenge!
