Kyle Schwarber Declines Option, Hits Free Agency
Kyle Schwarber declined his mutual option Friday, making him a free agent. The deal would have paid him $11.5 million dollars in 2022, but instead he will opt for a $3 million dollar buyout and a chance to hit the open market. Schwarber appeared in 113 games in 2021, slashing .266/.374/.554 with 32 homers, 71 RBI, and 76 runs scored. He is positioned as one of the top bats on the market, even moreso with the designated hitter seeming sure to be in play for the National League. He's a borderline top-100 fantasy player heading into 2022.
