Matchups

  • T1 vs. DWG (-275)
  • EDG (-240) vs. Gen. G

Captain

Scout - EDG: The EDG/Gen G matchup will have a lot to do with how the mid-lane plays out. In my opinion, EDG is a cut above Gen G. and this series could play out rather one-sided. GEN/EDG should be the bloodier matchup of the two so that will be our large stack target on this slate. Scout has a 21.4% kill share and a 64.3% kill participation throughout the tournament. Those aren't fantastic numbers but this series should be all about the mid-lane and EDG should be able to find advantages through the draft to allow Scout to have a big series.

Secondary Option: JieJie - EDG

TOP

Khan - DWG: This will be Khan's last tournament before he retires to fulfill his mandatory military service and he has looked locked in this entire tournament consistently winning his lane. He has gold and XP differences at 10 minutes of +450 and +442 which are massive early leads. He is second to Ghost in kill share this tournament.

Secondary Option: Flandre - EDG

JUNGLE

JieJie - EDG: Just looking at the numbers you could argue JieJie is the optimal captain on this slate as he has had a very active tournament with a 23.6% kill share good for second on the team and a 73.6% kill participation also good for second on his team. The reason he isn't my top captain choice is due to wanting 2 mid laners in my lineups.

Secondary Option: Canyon - DWG

MID

Scout - EDG: See above

ShowMaker - DWG: The ShowMaker/Faker matchup in the mid-lane is probably the best individual lane matchup we will see all tournament. This is the most accomplished player in LoL history up against probably the best mid laner in League of Legends. We will likely see a very back and forth series but DWG has yet to drop a game and look incredibly solid. They are the favorites to win the tournament and will look to remove any doubt with a dominating win over T1 in the semi-finals. ShowMaker is first in kill participation and second in kill are for DWG.

ADC

Viper - EDG: EDG very well could have the best bot lane in the world and at the very least are a tier ahead of the GEN bot lane although they aren't too bad either. Viper leads EDG in kill this tournament with 36 in 11 games. He also has counter-picked his champion 73% of games to go along with a 25% damage share.

Secondary Option: Ghost - DWG

SUPPORT

Meiko- EDG: As mentioned with Viper, EDG bot lane could be the best in the world. They are definitely the best of the four remaining teams. Meiko has an impressive 77.9% kill participation which is the highest of any player with at least 10 games played this worlds. Look for Meiko to once again be very involved against GEN.

Secondary Option: Beryl - DWG

TEAM

DWG/EDG: I have both listed here as they are both great options, but you will likely be using whichever team is part of your smaller stack. EDG has the easier matchup if trying to decide between the two.

Final Thoughts

It is hard to believe we are already at Semi-Finals weekend for Worlds 2021. Although the Quarterfinal matchups lacked some of the excitement that came with the Group Stage, it has still been one of the better Worlds in recent years. I am playing my lineups as if EDG will face DWG in the finals.
