Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/14) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Thursday, August 15th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 15th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • Nomar Mazara, you can HR(17), that’s fine. But we like Danny Santana(19) more now. Replaced in our hearts. See us in 2020.
  • Elvis Andrus is so hilarious. Only five SB in 2018 = world panics at loss of SB resource. Back to 25SB in 2019 = value-traders laugh w/you.
  • Renato Nunez was hot for a moment. .212AVG in last month questions the value of five HR in that time. 5-for-5 helps.
  • 26HR is awesome, Gary Sanchez. .235AVG might not be enough for me to pay the price in 2020.
  • Red Sox w/three guys in top-six in runs (Mookie Betts, Rafael Devers, Xander Bogaerts.); two in top-five in RBI(Devers, Bogaerts)
  • Shane Bieber stays at 12 Wins, but looked good doing it.
  • Rafael Devers...show them wheels. Two more will grant you entry into the 25/10-Club.
  • Xander Bogaerts will not tolerate your disrespect. Two more back-handed smacks(27). 5.5WAR leads all SS.
  • Trent Grisham's mustache grins when facing a righty. 2nd mustache-twirler of his career(403ft).
  • "Thames! I'm gonna live forever; I'm gonna learn how to fly (high!) around the bases." It's an Irene Cara remake for Eric Thames SB adventures(three).
  • Stay strong, Mitch Garver! I need you now more than ever. I don't care about AVG(.266), just maintain that power(23).
  • Many offensive players will want to renegotiate contracts after this year. I would. "Yes, I'll have the Bobby Bonilla contract, please.
  • Eddie Rosario close to joining the group w/personal bests in HR(26).
  • Miguel Sano, what if you did come into the season in the best shape of your life? I'd jump onto the value in 2020 drafts.
  • THUN-DAH! Eloy Jimenez is electric. 434ft Monster! (20). Keep your .240AVG. Another value in drafts next year.
  • Yuli G. can't stop flashing the bling. Buy the high AVG(.306), get the power for free from Yuli Gurriel.
  • Can someone explain how the ChiSox beat the Astros? You can't even say "That's why we play the game," with a straight face.
  • Nolan Arenado mashes 27th HR. Hmm, only 27 for an elite power hitter. He'll get hotter. Still might be a bottom-of-the-first-round pick in 2020 drafts. Power/No Speed combo.
  • Chasers gonna Chase! Eduardo Escobar (41%Chase) will go after what he wants. He gets his 27th homer.
  • Pitchers are breaking left & right. Robbie Ray w/back spasms. Ouch. Do that Upward-Dog.
  • You blow a save (Yoshihisa Hirano), you blow a save(Archie Bradley). Wait, who's next?
  • Cal Quantrill has been a beauty. Only 45% owned. In Cinci next.
  • Don't push me, cause I'm close to the edge...Tommy Pham seems to have taken a swan dive. 4HR, .225AVG last month.
  • Luis Urias. Only 10% owned. They must be looking at season stats. (.186AVG). 10R, 10RBI, .310AVG last 15 days.
  • Drop the BASS, Matty-Boy! Matt Chapman w/three hits over 400ft. Two departed the field(27).
  • This year will get even weirder if Homer Bailey gets 15W (10-8).
  • The one that coats is the only one you need! Maybe a little Tums, Tum-Tum Tum, TUMS! Trevor Bauer owners, take the day off. Let's regroup on Monday. We'll bring in some Friars.
  • Aristides Aquino, a 387ft homer?! You should be ashamed, Aaron Judge can hit 387ft homers. You're A.A. (enter superhero music).
  • It's been a long season without you my friend, Juan Soto(25HR, 11SB, .290AVG), & I'll tell you all about it when I see you again (in 2020 drafts.)
  • Shhh, Anthony Rendon hit 26th HR.
  • Victor Robles, stop running(18SB). You're ruining my 2020 discount.
  • Stephen Strasburg owners got that tainted W. They don't care.
  • Fashionably late, Bryce Harper brings a wild party of 5HR, 10RBI, .320AVG last week.
  • Party so crazy, J.T. Realmuto ordered his Grand Slam...some would have went the Taco Bell route.
  • Ever see a train wreck so bad, you want to watch again and again? You don't want to watch the Cole Hamels wreck even the once. Not for those w/weak stomachs.
  • Corey Seager(11) and Justin Turner(21) seem to be in a groove.
  • Edwin Rios with his first two prides of joy of MLB career. Congrats!
  • Clayton Kershaw, well done following Lucas Giolito and Marco Gonzalez into the 12-Win club.
  • Mark Melancon giveth & he taketh away.
  • Seth Lugo...OH MY! You got one guy out & let five guys score. I was told there would be no math, but that's not a good ratio.
  • Yes, Mike Trout does still steal bases(10).
  • Dillon Peters did win for the streamers. Damn, he was too far down on my conditional bids.
  • Paul DeJong, remember him? He's a 20-homer guy. DeJong. Paul DeJong. Nevermind.
  • Dakota Hudson is BACK...for the next four days. Then Brewers come to town.
  • Have a great Thursday. If you plan on accomplishing something this week, decide and do it. The week is almost over. Never too late.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
