Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox - Yesterday's Recap

Ellis Canady reviews last night's MLB box scores (8/7) and provides fun opinions on a variety of topics to help fantasy baseball owners with their lineups.

Welcome to the Thursday, August 8th edition of Daily Slivers of the Fantasy Soapbox.

Discussing baseball is as fun as the game itself. It has a way of bringing people together to share different opinions about the sport we all love. A similar action can be done with fantasy baseball where we not only discuss topics but also look to improve our teams as well as the teams of our fellow fantasy baseball enthusiasts. Everyone has their own perspectives which are not to be cast off as frivolous. They should be used as a method of expanding our own knowledge.

In this article, I review the previous day's boxscores and provide my opinion on a variety of topics. Some will be random, some will be fun, and some will be stat-driven. It's a soapbox so I may rant from time to time as well. So without any further delay, below are my thoughts on August 8th. Enjoy them. You can even respond with your own thoughts on Twitter @EllisCan2.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Daily Musings

  • MLB doubles-leader, Nicholas Castellanos(43), averaging one every 10 at-bats. Bo Bichette(8) has a pace of one double every 5.5AB. 10-game hit streak for Bichette.
  • Peter Alonso fires off his 37th flare. 83RBI is great. .260AVG is serviceable.
  • Michael Conforto drops the bass seven times in last 10 games (25)
  • Jeff McNeil to reach 20HR & Batting Crown? (.339AVG). Awesome for a guy that didn't have a place to play at start of season. 15HR.
  • All this juiciness could have been yours for dirt cheap. Jose Ramirez w/combo meal in game one. Super-sized the HR in game two. 16HR, 23SB, .245AVG. That's finger-lickin' good.
  • Willie Calhoun makes a long-distance deposit(nine).
  • No decision, but Zach Plesac was decidedly good. 6IP, 0ER, 7K.
  • Hunter Dozier trying to expand his repertoire. 2nd SB to go with 18HR, .282AVG.
  • Remember speedster Nicky Lopez joining the Royals who love to run? 1SB in 272AB. The game still has to be played.
  • J.D. Martinez w/slow and steady HR pace. 25HR & only 67RBI. Rafael Devers(87RBI) not leaving alot of meat on the bone for J.D.
  • Lance Lynn noble in loss, 7IP, 1ER, 8K. Puts it in neutral at 14W.
  • Lourdes Gurriel slowing down. 5HR, 13RBI, .212AVG last 30 days. Did you sell high?
  • Bichette, I know you got caught two straight days. I don't care. Run again & again & again. All Day Running!
  • Brendan McKay had a decent outing in a solid matchup. 5IP, 3ER, 8K
  • .375 over the last week. Yep, Jose Abreu is locked in. He better be in your starting lineups.
  • Max Fried joins the 13-win club.
  • Freddie Freeman w/three straight games with a ball-buster(29). Crazy that 92RBI is not leading the league.
  • Ronald Acuna also enjoying the hotness w/four HR in last six games(29).
  • Ozzie Albies w/444ft big-boy slingshot. Demolished! Added another for authority's sake. 2HR, 3SB, .438AVG in last week. Responding well to the two-hole.
  • Martin Perez still 28% owned. Why?! Our people better not.
  • Example of bandwagon jumpers? Look no further than Yuli Gurriel. So many scrambling to get back on...9HR, 30RBI, 1SB, .368AB last 30 days.
  • Party of four. Gerrit Cole joins the 14-Win club. 6IP, 2ER, 10K.
  • Trevor Story w/four HR in five games(26). A joy to root for. He's still leading Nolan Arenado(25), for now.
  • Jose Quintana looking good since 29Jun. 6W, 3.67ERA(3.17FIP). 17.9%K-BB. In Philly next.
  • Marcell Ozuna has returned(21HR).
  • Jack Flaherty & Trevor May provided an excellent duel(stop saying that; it makes no sense). Flaherty w/seven scoreless & 10K. May w/5.2IP, 1ER, 7K. May needs to be owned while he's in the rotation.
  • No wait for fireworks. Fernando Tatis Jr. gets the party started quickly. 409ft(21HR).
  • Keston Hiura doubles his enjoyment. 3-for-4 w/6R+RBI. 13HR.
  • Yankees bringing guys off the street to see if they can HR in Camden. Today's contestant: Kyle Higashioka from Huntington Beach, CA. YES!! Twice!! Give him a hand ladies & gentlemen.
  • Giovanny Urshela shells out two as well(14).
  • Trey Mancini gives some home-town love(27).
  • Oh, look who decided to join us. Bryce Harper, welcome to 20HR.
  • Uh-oh. Zac Gallen gets the W. A successful trade for D'backs?
  • Have a great Thursday. Spend 15 minutes doing something you've not done before. A small amount of revitalization will help you appreciate other things more, including the small slate of games tonight.
  • No Fear, Just Fantasy.
