Streaming Wars: Waiver Wire Targets for September 11

Brad Johnson's fantasy baseball daily streaming picks for September 11. Pitcher and hitter streamers for MLB DFS games, and head-to-head (H2H) waiver wire targets.

Welcome to Streaming Wars, your one-stop shop for streaming the waiver wire. Use this column to improve upon your neediest categories.

Below are your pitcher and hitter streaming targets for Monday, September 11.

Let's get to it.

Be sure to check all of our fantasy baseball lineup tools and resources:

Agenda

  1. Don't @ Me
  2. Today's Weather and Updates
  3. Tomorrow's Picks

1. Don't @ Me

I used to be really into football. I haven't watched more than the occasional Thanksgiving Day game for nearly 10 years now. Trust me, life is better without it. Over the next few weeks, you and your rivals will be tempted to prioritize your new, shiny football rosters at the expense of your baseball lineups. Maintaining focus on baseball, could reap rewards over these last few weeks. A lot happens in the closing moments of the baseball season.

2. Today's Weather and Updates

There's a hurricane hanging out in Florida, but it won't affect today's action. The upcoming series between the Yankees and Rays will be held at CitiField.

3. Tomorrow's Picks - Monday, September 11

Pitchers to Use

If you're looking for a little bit of everything tomorrow, Brandon Woodruff is your guy. Through four starts, the righty has posted a fortunate 1.52 ERA (3.40 FIP, 4.44 xFIP) with the help of an above average swinging strike rate and 51 percent ground ball rate. Despite his ability to induce whiffs, Woodruff doesn't rack up strikeouts. He's avoided barrels through 23.2 innings, but it's only a matter of time before he makes a few mistakes in the zone. Woodruff is hosting the Pirates at homer happy Miller Park.

The other four names listed below either have a friendly matchup or a platoon advantage.

Other Targets: CC Sabathia, Ariel Miranda, Reynaldo Lopez, Jason Hammel

Pitchers to Exploit

I went back and forth on where to include Brault. Ultimately, I think the southpaw throws a few too many fastballs to be a fantasy asset. Although he thrived at Triple-A, tossing 70 percent fastballs is not a winning strategy in the majors - at least not when your heater sits at 91 mph. Brault has a difficult task ahead of him. He'll be asked to tame a strikeout and homer prone Brewers lineup.

Other Targets: Ubaldo Jimenez, Matt Boyd, Chris Stratton

Homers on the Wire

The Orioles are giving Austin Hays an early look in the majors. The 2016 third round pick was the runner up for minor leaguer of the year (Ronald Acuna won those honors). Hays combined for 32 home runs between High- and Double-A. An aggressive hitter, he hit for a high average while avoiding strikeouts. However, he had a high swinging strike rate in the minors - an indication that he'll struggle with strikeouts in the majors. He also skipped Triple-A altogether. Hays has the potential to deliver some serious pop - at least until scouting reports catch up to him. There's an outside chance he'll pull a Hunter Renfroe.

Other Targets: Steve Pearce, Kevin Pillar, Seth Smith, Austin Jackson, Yandy Diaz, Keon Broxton, Hernan Perez, Adam Frazier, Drew Robinson, Joc Pederson

Steals on the Wire

There is only one source of steals on the wire for tomorrow. Fortunately, he's a near-elite asset for the category. Delino DeShields will have the platoon advantage against Miranda. This is one of those ground ball hitter versus fly ball pitcher matchups too. Translation: DeShields has an elevated chance to produce line drives and other hard contact.

Other Targets: Uh oh...

Skill Positions

Assuming he starts, Yan Gomes has a friendly matchup against Boyd. Gomes has rebounded from an atrocious 2016 to provide some value to the Indians. He does most of his damage against southpaws - .255/.348/.510 with seven home runs in 113 plate appearances.
