Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlooks
Below are some fantasy football outlooks written by our NFL team here at RotoBaller, bringing you their fantasy football analysis and advice on which players to consider starting in Week 2:
Xavier Worthy, Kansas City Chiefs
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was the Chiefs' second receiver in their season-opening victory over the Broncos. He tied for the team lead with six targets and finished second among Chiefs' receivers, playing 77% of snaps.
Worthy finished with only three catches for 18 yards, but he has the potential to be even more involved when the Chiefs go to more pass-heavy game scripts. Kansas City played from ahead on Monday night, and they leaned heavily on the ground game as a result. Worthy brings big-play potential in a solid offense and can be a nice addition from the waiver wire in 12-team leagues, based on his Week 1 role and his upside in more favorable matchups.
Bucky Irving, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving did a little bit of everything on the field during the season opener. Irving rushed the ball eight times for 45 yards and a touchdown. He also hauled in all seven of his targets for 48 yards and another score during the Week 1 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Irving was highly efficient on the ground with 5.6 yards per carry, while being a huge factor in the receiving game. The Bucs clearly trust Irving to make plays on the ground and through the air. The presence of Kenny Gainwell does not appear to be making an impact on the value of Irving. Fantasy managers should consider Irving a high-end RB2 for the upcoming matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Devin Singletary, New York Giants
New York Giants running back Devin Singletary took over as the primary backup behind Cam Skattebo after Tyrone Tracy Jr. lost a fumble on one of his two carries. Singletary got 16 rushing yards on six carries and found the end zone while catching all four of his targets for 22 receiving yards.
Singletary played 36% of the team's snaps, while Tracy played just two snaps, and Najee Harris was a healthy scratch. While Harris could get some short-yardage work as the season goes on, Singletary has value as the team's primary receiving option out of the backfield and the backup behind Skattebo. If you need RB help in a deep league, especially in PPR formats, Singletary has enough upside to be an option to consider from the waiver wire before Week 2.
Jonathon Brooks, Carolina Panthers
Carolina Panthers running back Jonathon Brooks played a clear backup role behind Chuba Hubbard in a 59-37 Week 1 loss to the Chicago Bears. Brooks did have a highlight play on a 48-yard reception from quarterback Bryce Young, but he carried the ball just four times for 14 yards. Meanwhile, Hubbard recorded 10 carries for 49 yards and a rushing touchdown, in addition to three receptions for 38 yards and a receiving touchdown.
According to Pro Football Focus, Brooks played just 13 offensive snaps compared to Hubbard's 48, which is a telling sign of the pecking order in Carolina's backfield. With that in mind, it was a high-scoring game that called for a lot of passing plays, and the Panthers had to play catch-up often. Brooks will have a Week 2 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons, but as of right now, he shouldn't be viewed as more than a desperate flex option.
Kalif Raymond, Chicago Bears
On a day when the Chicago Bears' offense put up 59 points in a Week 1 season-opening win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, it was wide receiver Kalif Raymond who led the team in receiving. Raymond was second among the team's wideouts (behind Luther Burden III) with a 60% snap share, and he caught eight of his nine targets for 84 yards, all team highs. The 32-year-old veteran pass-catcher was talked up during training camp by his teammates and coaches, and he has experience playing for head coach Ben Johnson during their time together with the Detroit Lions.
In fact, Raymond, a former undrafted free agent from Holy Cross, had his best season (career-high 616 receiving yards) with Johnson back in 2022. It was a bit of a surprise to see Raymond become the focal point of Chicago's passing attack in Week 1, and it came at the expense of tight end Colston Loveland, who did not have a single catch on only two targets.
Raymond had just 24 catches for 289 yards and one touchdown in his final season in Detroit last year, but he has his sights set on a much bigger role in the Windy City and is now firmly on the waiver-wire radar heading into Week 2. He is rostered in just 1% of Yahoo leagues.
