New York Giants rookie defensive end Abdul Carter was benched to begin Monday's game versus the New England Patriots. The team is calling Carter's absence on the first drive a coach's decision. This was likely due to Carter missing some type of team activity (most likely a meeting) last week. Carter did eventually make it onto the field and recorded a sack. This isn't the first time that Carter has been benched by the Giants. Interim head coach Mike Kafka is trying to make a statement in a lost season. The Giants were already mathematically eliminated from playoff contention at 2-10 before the kickoff on Monday night. Carter was the third overall pick back in April out of Penn State.--Andy Webb
