Detroit Red Wings left wing James van Riemsdyk will miss Thursday's season opener against the Montreal Canadiens, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports. The veteran missed most of training camp due to a personal matter and was placed on the non-roster list on Monday. According to Khan, van Riemsdyk might be ready for Saturday's matchup against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Once he's available, van Riemsdyk will likely take on a bottom-six role in Detroit and could be a healthy scratch at times, as several younger players are aiming to step up with the Red Wings.--Taavi Pailk
