Jesse Winker, Jose Siri Begin Rehab Assignments
Jesse Winker (back) and outfielder Jose Siri (leg) began rehab assignments at the Single-A level on Wednesday. There's potential for both players to return sometime in September. Winker has been on the IL with inflammation in his lower back since July 11, and he missed significant time earlier this season with an oblique strain. The injuries have limited him to 26 games and a .229/.300/.400 line with one home run and 10 RBI in 81 plate appearances. Without Winker, the Mets have mostly turned to Starling Marte and Mark Vientos at DH. Siri, meanwhile, fractured his left tibia just nine games into his season and has been on the shelf since April 17. The 30-year-old has never been an offensive threat (.207/.265/.403 in 1,210 plate appearances), but his speed and defense could help the Mets late in the season if he returns.
