Kyle Tucker Played Through Hairline Fracture in Hand, Now Healthy
Kyle Tucker (hand) suffered a hairline fracture on the top of his right hand in a June 1 game against the Cincinnati Reds, according to Jesse Rogers of ESPN. Manager Craig Counsell confirmed Rogers' report on Wednesday night, but he said Tucker is now healthy. While the initial belief was that Tucker jammed his ring finger, an MRI showed a fracture "near where the pinky and ring finger meet," per Rogers. Nevertheless, Tucker did not go on the 10-day injured list, and he underwent re-imaging in mid-June that showed his hand was healing. Tucker did post a .982 OPS in June, but his numbers have nosedived in the past month and a half. Heading into July, Tucker owned a stellar .291/.395/.537 line with 17 home runs and 52 RBI. In 38 games since then, the 28-year-old has gone a miserable 25-for-132 (.189) with one homer and 10 RBI despite having totaled more walks (26) than strikeouts (25). While Tucker hasn't made any excuses about the injury during his protracted slump, Counsell admitted it has "likely" hampered his production. Counsell has held Tucker out of three straight games in hopes that the time off will jump-start him. There's no guarantee it'll work, but the Cubs and fantasy managers are hoping Tucker will come back refreshed for the last several weeks of the season.
