Tarik Skubal Overpowers Twins in 13-Strikeout Gem
Tarik Skubal spun his latest gem in a 3-0 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. Skubal fired seven innings of one-hit ball and tied a career high with 13 strikeouts against one walk to improve to 10-2. The reigning AL Cy Young winner threw the 15 fastest pitches of the night, all of which clocked in at 97.9 mph or higher, and generated 22 swinging strikes. Having already totaled five starts of double-digit strikeouts, Skubal leads the majors with 138 over 109 innings. The left-hander has given out a meager 14 free passes while posting a 2.15 ERA and a league-best 0.83 WHIP. Skubal will get the ball next in a road start against the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday. He was spectacular in a win over the Guardians on May 25, firing a complete-game, two-hit shutout with 13 strikeouts.
