Everyone loves power rankings, especially during the slow points of the offseason.

However, you rarely see NFL head-coaching rankings despite them playing a massive role in teams winning games.

So, let’s dive into my NFL head coach power rankings, where I rank all 32 head coaches heading into the 2025 season.

Head Coach Nos. 32-21

32) Brian Schottenheimer, Dallas Cowboys

The Cowboys had the worst head-coaching search this offseason, letting Mike McCarthy leave when his contract expired. Dallas promoted Schottenheimer after he spent the past two years as the team’s offensive coordinator. This season will be his first as an NFL head coach.

31) Kellen Moore, New Orleans Saints

Moore has bounced around the NFL as an offensive coordinator the past few years. He was with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022, the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023, and the Philadelphia Eagles last season. Moore takes over as the Saints’ new head coach, facing many challenges in 2025 and beyond.

30) Brian Callahan, Tennessee Titans

Last year was Callahan’s first season as an NFL head coach, going 3-14. The Titans secured the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the lone bright spot of last season. Callahan’s coaching seat might be warming up despite only heading into the second year of his contract.

29) Aaron Glenn, New York Jets

Many around the NFL are big fans of Glenn after his run as the Detroit Lions defensive coordinator. Last year, the Lions had the league’s top run defense despite missing several star players because of injury.

28) Shane Steichen, Indianapolis Colts

While Steichen has a 17-17 record in his two years as the Colts head coach, he could find himself out of a job after the 2025 season. Indianapolis has missed the postseason in both years under Steichen after having late-season blunders cost it a chance at the playoffs.

27) Dave Canales, Carolina Panthers

Canales had only one year as an offensive coordinator before getting hired as the Panthers head coach last offseason. While Carolina had a 5-12 record in his first year as the head coach, the team played significantly better later in the year.

26) Jonathan Gannon, Arizona Cardinals

After going 4-13 in his first year as an NFL head coach, Gannon led the Cardinals to an 8-9 record last season. While the team hasn’t had a winning record under the head coach, many have high hopes for Arizona in 2025.

25) Liam Coen, Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars did everything in their power to hire Coen this offseason despite him having only two years of offensive coordinator experience in the NFL. Last season, he led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to one of the top offenses in the league.

24) Ben Johnson, Chicago Bears

Johnson was the head-coaching candidate every NFL team's fan base has wanted over the past two offseasons. He was arguably the league’s top coordinator during his time with the Detroit Lions, leading one of the best offenses in the league. Bears fans should have high hopes for Johnson in his first year as the head coach.

23) Mike Macdonald, Seattle Seahawks

Last offseason, the Seahawks moved on from Pete Carroll to hire Macdonald. He spent the past few years as the Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator, leading one of the top units in the NFL. Seattle had a 10-7 record in Macdonald’s first year but missed the playoffs.

22) Brian Daboll, New York Giants

The Giants had a 9-7-1 record in Daboll’s first year as the head coach, making the playoffs. However, he has a 9-25 record over the past two seasons, with the offense ranking in the bottom three in scoring both years.

21) Raheem Morris, Atlanta Falcons

Morris has been an NFL head coach for the Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Last year, he led Atlanta to an 8-9 record, missing out on the playoffs. Furthermore, Morris has only one winning season as a head coach.

Head Coach Nos. 20-11

20) Kevin Stefanski, Cleveland Browns

Unfortunately, Stefanski could be heading into his final year with the Browns. He has two 11-win seasons during his five years in Cleveland despite never having a consistent quarterback. Stefanski has won the Coach of the Year Award twice.

19) Mike McDaniel, Miami Dolphins

While McDaniel is one of the more popular head coaches in the NFL, the Dolphins haven’t gotten over the hump under his leadership. Last year, he had an 8-9 record, his worst as a head coach.

18) Todd Bowles, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Bowles is one of the more underrated head coaches in the NFL. He failed with the New York Jets, posting a 24-40 record in four years. However, Bowles has won three consecutive NFC South division titles with the Buccaneers, improving his win total every season.

17) Mike Vrabel, New England Patriots

Many believed the Patriots would have hired Vrabel last offseason following Bill Belichick’s departure if not for Jerod Mayo’s coach-in-waiting deal. However, New England should get back to winning games under Vrabel.

16) DeMeco Ryans, Houston Texans

Despite having no previous head-coaching experience, Ryans has been outstanding since the Texans hired him in 2023. He has led the team to back-to-back 10-7 seasons, winning the AFC South division title both years.

15) Zac Taylor, Cincinnati Bengals

Taylor led the Bengals to the Super Bowl during the 2021 season. Furthermore, Cincinnati has had a winning record in four consecutive years under Taylor’s leadership.

14) Matt LaFleur, Green Bay Packers

The Packers have had only two full-time head coaches over the past 19 years: Mike McCarthy and LaFleur. Despite going from Aaron Rodgers to Jordan Love, LaFleur has only one losing season as a head coach, winning 11 or more games in four of six years as the team’s head coach.

13) Sean McDermott, Buffalo Bills

While the Bills haven’t made a Super Bowl appearance under McDermott’s watch, they have been one of the more consistent franchises since hiring the head coach. Buffalo has won double-digit games in six consecutive seasons, including 13 in two of the past three.

12) Dan Quinn, Washington Commanders

Quinn has a 55-47 record in seven years as an NFL head coach, including a Super Bowl appearance in his second season. Last year, he led the Commanders to 12 wins and the NFC Championship Game when many expected them to be one of the worst teams in the league.

11) Kevin O’Connell, Minnesota Vikings

There might not be a more underrated coach in the NFL than O’Connell. The Vikings have a 34-17 record during his three years as the head coach, winning 13 or more games twice, including last season with Sam Darnold under center.

Head Coach Nos. 10-1

10) Dan Campbell, Detroit Lions

While the Lions haven’t made a Super Bowl appearance under Campbell’s tenure, they have gone from a laughingstock to one of the top teams in the NFL. Detroit has won at least 12 games in back-to-back seasons, including having the best record in the league last year (15-2).

9) Nick Sirianni, Philadelphia Eagles

Last year, Sirianni led the Eagles to their second Super Bowl appearance in three years. Philadelphia brought home its first Lombardi Trophy under Sirianni, finishing the season with an 18-3 record during the regular season and postseason.

8) Pete Carroll, Las Vegas Raiders

Carroll returns to head coaching after spending the 2024 season semi-retired, working in the Seattle Seahawks front office. He brings his 170-120 career coaching record to the Raiders after posting a winning record with the Seahawks (137-89) and New England Patriots (27-21).

7) Kyle Shanahan, San Francisco 49ers

Unfortunately, Shanahan hasn’t gotten the 49ers over the hump. While he is 0-2 in the Super Bowl as the team’s head coach, Shanahan has four seasons with double-digit wins, including three of the past four.

6) Sean Payton, Denver Broncos

Last year, Payton led Denver to a 10-7 record and a playoff berth for the first time since 2015. He has been one of the top head coaches in NFL history, posting a 170-105 record during his time with the Broncos and New Orleans Saints.

5) Jim Harbaugh, Los Angeles Chargers

Harbaugh wins no matter where he’s coaching. He turned around two college programs: Stanford and Michigan. More importantly, the coach had a 44-19-1 record in four years with the San Francisco 49ers and an 11-6 mark with the Chargers last season.

4) Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers

While the Steelers haven’t won a playoff game since 2016, Tomlin is arguably the most consistent head coach in NFL history. He has an 183-107-2 record as Pittsburgh’s head coach, posting an 8-8 or better mark every year.

3) John Harbaugh, Baltimore Ravens

The other Harbaugh brother has been one of the top head coaches in the NFL since the Ravens hired him in 2008, winning the Super Bowl in 2012. Furthermore, he has won double-digit games in six of the past seven seasons, including 12 or more three times.

2) Sean McVay, Los Angeles Rams

Whenever an NFL team fires its head coach, it is looking for the next McVay. He has been one of the top head coaches since taking over the Rams in 2017 at the age of 31. McVay has had only one losing season in eight years, making two Super Bowl appearances.

1) Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs

Reid might go down in NFL history as the top head coach of all time. He has made six Super Bowl appearances during his 26 years as the head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, winning three of the past six titles.
