Will Justin Herbert play in Week 3 against the Steelers or will he be out? Justin Pottinger breaks down the latest Justin Herbert injury news for fantasy football.
Los Angeles Chargers star quarterback Justin Hebert has had a solid start to his 2024 season, as the Chargers are 2-0 through the first two weeks of football.
Unfortunately, Herbert has been battling an ankle injury, raising concerns about his availability for Week 3.
So, is Justin Herbert hurt or healthy? Will Herbert play in Week 3 against the Pittsburgh Steelers? Let's dive in.
UPDATE: Justin Herbert has officially been ruled as QUESTIONABLE for Week 3
Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert (ankle) is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s Week 3 matchup against the 2-0 Pittsburgh Steelers.
Herbert revealed on Friday that he sustained a high right ankle sprain in the Week 2 win over the Carolina Panthers, though he returned to practice on Thursday after missing Wednesday's session.
High-ankle sprains often sideline players for at least a couple of weeks, so there’s a significant chance he could miss this game.
Fantasy managers will need to monitor his status before his game on Sunday.
#Chargers QB Justin Herbert, speaking with reporters for the first time this week, said he is dealing with a high-ankle sprain. He described the pain as "not great," but says his status is still TBD.
If Herbert cannot get cleared to play, Easton Stick would likely take over at quarterback, and the Chargers would likely rely more heavily on running backs J.K. Dobbins and Gus Edwards. Both running backs have been fantastic this season.
Should Herbert play but be limited by the injury, he would be considered more of a low-end QB2 option in fantasy for Sunday. If he’s unable to play, it would be a significant setback for the Chargers' offense as they aim to stay undefeated at 3-0.
For the remainder of the season, Herbert can be viewed as a QB2 option as the year progresses. He can throw for 300 yards and two touchdowns, but he lacks the offensive weapons that would allow him to do so easily as he has in past seasons.
Regardless on if Herbert plays or not this week, fantasy managers should keep him on your bench as he brings a lot of risk to your lineup this week.
