What NFL Teams Have Never Played In The Super Bowl?
There are two different ways to approach this question about which teams have never won the Super Bowl. Let's start by looking at the teams who have never even made a Super Bowl appearance in the history of their franchise.
Four current NFL teams have not played in a Super Bowl. These teams are the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars.
As newer expansion teams, Houston and Jacksonville's place on this list isn't a surprise. As for the other two teams, both have historically struggled, so their lack of NFL success isn't a surprise either.
Which NFL Teams Have Played In The Super Bowl But Never Won?
There are eight NFL teams that have appeared in at least one Super Bowl but have not won the big game before.
Three teams have an 0-1 record in the Super Bowl: the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, and Tennessee Titans.
Two teams have an 0-2 record in the Super Bowl: the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers.
One team has an 0-3 record in the Super Bowl: the Cincinnati Bengals, who were the most recent team with a chance to win their first title as they played in the game following the 2021 season.
Finally, two teams hold the record for most Super Bowl appearances without a victory. The Buffalo Bills lost four consecutive Super Bowls in the 1990s to give them an 0-4 record in the big game. The Minnesota Vikings appeared in four Super Bowls during the 1970s and also failed to record a victory.
