David Montgomery's fantasy football start 'em, sit 'em picks for Week 15 (2023). Our advice on whether you should start or sit David Montgomery for fantasy lineups.
BALLER MOVE: Start in 10+ Team Leagues
POSITIONAL VALUE: RB2
ANALYSIS: Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery has scored in double digits in each of the last five games since his return from injury in Week 10. Despite the emergence of rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, the 26-year-old has seen at least 12 touches in every game this season, despite his snap count decreasing. While Gibbs handles the majority of receiving work, Week 14 was the first full game Montgomery played where he didn't score a touchdown. The team trusts Montgomery near the goal line, and he has a good chance to score weekly in the dynamic Lions' offense.
The Lions take on the Broncos in Week 15, who allow the most points per game to running backs this season. However, things have been different as of late, as the Broncos are in the bottom 10 in points allowed to running backs over the last four weeks. Detroit's offensive identity is running the ball, creating a path for Montgomery to be a useful fantasy asset despite playing just 30% of the snaps at times.
It seems like the volume will be more split going forward than earlier this season when Montgomery would see around 20 touches per game. The team's utilization of running backs will still allow him to get 12-15 touches, ranking him as a strong RB2 against an improving Broncos' run defense.
