Lance McCullers Jr.

Houston Astros starting pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. (forearm) will have an MRI on Friday, according to general manager Dana Brown. Unfortunately, the results aren't expected back until next week, so fantasy managers will need to wait a few days before learning what the future holds for the right-hander.

The 29-year-old, who played well last season despite making only eight starts, was hoping to return around the All-Star break. However, considering the multiple setbacks of late, things aren't looking too promising at the moment. That said, McCullers should remain on fantasy rosters for now, at least until the results of the MRI are made public.

Alex Cobb

San Francisco Giants starting pitcher Alex Cobb (hip) exited Thursday's meeting with the Rockies. The right-hander made it through five innings before leaving with left hip tightness, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out seven batters. Fortunately, the injury may not be as severe as initially expected, with Cobb stating postgame he's not concerned about it moving forward.

The 35-year-old has played well this season, amassing a 5-2 record with a 3.01 ERA and 71 strikeouts, so hopefully, he'll be ready to go for his next scheduled start. However, there may be an official update on his prognosis in the next day or two.

Jose Alvarado

Philadelphia Phillies left-handed reliever Jose Alvarado (elbow) will come off the injured list on Friday. Alvarado will return to the Phillies bullpen after missing the last four weeks with left-elbow inflammation. The 28-year-old Venezuelan southpaw allowed two runs and four hits in his two minor-league rehab appearances, but he should return to a high-leverage role in the Phillies bullpen now that he's back to full health.

Before his injury, Alvarado was one of the most dominant relievers in baseball with a 0.63 ERA (0.85 FIP), 0.63 WHIP, five saves, no walks and 24 strikeouts in 14 1/3 innings of work. While he may be eased into save chances, Alvarado absolutely deserves to be rostered in all fantasy formats.

Hunter Greene

Cincinnati Reds manager David Bell said that starting pitcher Hunter Greene (hip) "felt great" after his last side bullpen session and he's on track to start this Sunday on the road against the St. Louis Cardinals. As a precaution, the Reds pushed Greene's last start back, but he has been given the green light to return this weekend.

The 23-year-old hard-throwing right-hander should be returned to starting fantasy lineups, especially after giving up just one run on two hits while walking five and striking out 19 in 12 innings over his last two outings. Greene will carry a little more risk into his start against the Red Birds, who rank fourth in the National League with a .745 OPS.

Noah Syndergaard

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed starting pitcher Noah Syndergaard (finger) on the 15-day injured list on Thursday with a blister on his right index finger. Manager Dave Roberts said the team will build Syndergaard back up slowly once his blister heals. The Dodgers are in no hurry to rush the 30-year-old right-hander back out there after he has gone 1-4 with an ugly 7.16 ERA (5.55 FIP), 1.45 WHIP, nine walks and only 38 strikeouts in 55 1/3 innings over his 12 starts for the Blue so far in 2023.

Fantasy managers in mixed leagues can send Thor to the waiver wire, and there's a chance he won't even have a rotation spot available to him once he's healthy enough and stretched out for a return to the big leagues.
