Drey Jameson is a fantasy baseball waiver wire pickup. Target Jameson as an upside free agent on the waiver wire before he turns in more strong outings.
ANALYSIS: Drey Jameson struck out four and walked none through four shutout innings of work in his first start of 2023. The Milwaukee Brewers bats were limited to just three hits against Jameson on Wednesday night.
The former first-round pick is making his case to stick in the rotation going forward as he builds up his pitch count to reflect a starter's workload. Jameson was limited to just 54 pitches but racked up an impressive 35% CSW (called strikes plus whiffs).
Jameson attacked the strike zone with his 95 mph sinker, generated whiffs with his slider, and mixed in his four-seam fastball that topped out at 98.9 mph.
Through four appearances in 2023, Jameson has a 2-0 record, including a save, and has racked up 12 strikeouts in 12.1 innings pitched. If he can keep the walks down as seen in this most recent appearance, we are looking at the start of a breakout campaign for the 25-year-old.
Jameson’s roster percentage is continuing to grow as top pitching options fall victim to injury. As seen with Spencer Strider in 2022, teams prefer to ease their young arms in action through bullpen appearances before they’re deemed ready to start games. If you’re able to stomach another couple of short outings while waiting for Jameson to build up his workload, the risk may pay off in the long run.
