Top 5 MLB Prospect Rankings - Boston Red Sox

Triston Casas - Fantasy Baseball Rankings, Draft Sleepers, MLB Injury News

Andersen's top 5 MLB prospects rankings for the Boston Red Sox. He explores team's farm system and ranks their top five prospects and rookies for 2023.

Welcome to RotoBaller's 2023 team-by-team prospect rankings series. Here, we will take a look at the top five prospects in each of the 30 farm systems.

Players will be sorted by overall value and assessed on a traditional 20-80 scale. In case you're unfamiliar with this scouting methodology, here's the gist: players are assigned a number grade for five essential tools. A translation of the scoring and the tools can be found linked here. Using these five grades, the player is then assigned an overall grade. This overall grade can be the average of all five tools, but it does not have to be. For example, a third baseman won't be docked too much for poor running skills if the most important parts of their game are an elite glove and a powerful bat.

It's time to dive into the rankings. Without further ado, here are the top five prospects in the Boston Red Sox organization.

Boston Red Sox Top Prospects For 2023

Player Name Pos Overall Hit / FB Pow / CB Field / SL Arm / CH Run / CTL Height Weight Bats Throws Age Level ETA
Marcelo Mayer SS 55 60 55 60 60 45 6-3 190 Right Left 20 High-A 2025
Triston Casas 1B 55 55 60 50 55 25 6-4 250 Right Left 23 MLB 2023
Miguel Bleis OF 50 50 55 50 55 55 6-3 170 Right Right 19 FCL 2026
Ceddanne Rafaela OF 50 50 50 60 50 55 5-8 150 Right Right 22 Double-A 2024
Nick Yorke 2B 50 55 50 55 45 45 6-0 200 Right Right 20 High-A 2025

Boston's system has quietly blossomed into one of baseball's best since Chaim Bloom took over. The young President of Baseball Operations has certainly had his fair share of failures (headlined by the Mookie Betts trade), but he deserves credit for recruiting a set of promising players on the mound and in the field.

The list begins with four-tool star Marcelo Mayer, who was a No. 4 overall pick and could be Boston's shortstop of the future. Casas has reached the majors and shows impressive power skills while Bleis is looking like he could be a five-tool stud someday.

Rafaela might be the most interesting prospect in the Red Sox organization because of how he emerged in 2022. The team's Minor League Player of the Year, Rafaela plays shortstop, second base, and center field and has drawn a whole lot of Mookie Betts comparisons.

He possesses game-changing defensive skills but has also shown the ability to make big things happen at the plate. Rounding out the list is Yorke, a former first-rounder who signed for under slot. His long-term value is very hard to project, but he certainly has the upside of someone who could be an impact player and start 100-plus games in the majors.
