Welcome to Rotation Watch, Rotoballers! Each week, this article will highlight the players gaining minutes in their team's rotation. Fantasy managers want to roster the players that accumulate stats and rack up the playing time. They want to avoid the players falling out of favor and watching the action from the sidelines.
With the new season here, Rotation Watch is well... back in the rotation. With new rotations and players bouncing around from season to season, it's important to take note of who's "in" and who's "out". I've been consistently updating my data model to account for minutes over the 2022-2023 regular season, as well as each player's last four games, and their stats based on who's on and who's off the floor (accounting for injury, etc.).
So without further ado, let's start searching those box scores and look for those hidden gems that grabbed minutes to help your fantasy basketball team achieve the ultimate prize: a championship. NBA Playing Time Changes
Grant Williams - PF, Boston Celtics
ESPN: 7.2% rostered
Week 6: 29:00 Minutes per Game
I'll start things off this week with Grant Williams. As I'm writing this, Williams is having a dominant performance against the Phoenix Suns. With Al Horford entering health and safety protocols Wednesday night, this should open the door for Williams to gather more minutes.
I've mentioned Williams at least once before in this column, and I can't believe he's still as low-rostered as he is, at least on ESPN. I'm sure things will change when Horford and Robert Williams eventually return after the new year rolls around, but for now, give me all of the Grant Williams available on waivers as he can help in all formats. He's great for points leagues but isn't a bad shout in category leagues where he can grab you rebounds, points, and threes.
Chris Boucher - PF/C, Toronto Raptors
ESPN: 45.3% rostered
Week 6: 22.54 Minutes per Game
A bit of a higher-rostered player than I'd typically like to put on here, but Boucher is a guy I'll be keeping my eye on for a bit. With Precious Achiuwa and Otto Porter Jr. out, Boucher is picking up a lot of the forward minutes off of the Raptors' bench.
Boucher played 25 minutes on Wednesday night, logging 16 minutes and seven rebounds. He's a viable option in category leagues where you're in need of those two categories specifically, and he can also help in the block department. I'd personally look for him as a streaming option in points leagues, though.
Corey Kispert - SF, Washington Wizards
ESPN: 0.9% rostered
Week 6: 26:36 Minutes per Game
Last but not least, I'll take a look at Corey Kispert. I may be a little late on this, but with Bradley Beal, Delon Wright, and Rui Hachimura all out for at least a few games, Kispert is a good shout.
While Kispert isn't a bonafide fantasy point-per-minute player, he's been playing more than enough minutes to make up for it, logging at least 30 minutes in his last three games. He's primarily a "scorer" if you would call him that, but it is worth noting he's logged five peripheral stats, or "stocks" as ThunderDan calls him in his last four games as well.
