EPL Betting Picks and Game Previews for Matchweek 5: English Premier League

Jamie Steed previews EPL Matchweek 5 of the 2022/23 season, starting on 8/30/2022. He previews each game from the English Premier League, picking bets and a player to watch out for in fantasy

We're offering up our favorite betting pick for each game along with a score prediction and will include a player to look out for in fantasy from each fixture. Before you read on, remember these essential things: Betting on sports should be fun. If you aren't having fun with it, stop. And never bet what you can't afford to lose.

It was a tough weekend and despite getting seven of the ten results correct (plus a couple of correct scores), we took a small loss. The fine margins were in play with six games seeing us lose by one goal in either direction, including a last-minute Newcastle equalizer that denied us a solid profit. With such a quick turnaround, we still have all the usual predictions, betting picks and players to watch but the full write-ups have been reduced.

We've been cranking up the soccer content at RotoBaller too. We're still bringing you dedicated DFS and Fantasy Premier League content, on top of the weekly preview and betting content. Follow the team on Twitter (@LucidMediaDFS@PhilOfSports, @EuanOrYouOut, @df_solutions, @Mark_Kieffer, and yours truly @Baseball_Jimbo), and reach out to any of us if you ever have any soccer questions or need advice on any of this.

2022-23 EPL Betting Picks

  • Match results: 21-19
  • Total picks: 18-18-3
  • Parlays: 2-4
  • ROI: 107.85% (+2.12 units)

Tuesday, August 30th, 2022

Brentford (+259) at Crystal Palace (+116) - 2:30 pm ET

Score prediction: Crystal Palace 2 - 1 Brentford

Palace have been a tough opponent with a draw against Liverpool and losses to Arsenal and Manchester City. They'll be glad to have an easier schedule and will fancy themselves to get a win against a Brentford team with just one point from their two away games, conceding five.

Betting pick: Moneyline - Crystal Palace (+116) 0.5 units

Player to watch: Wilfried Zaha

Zaha has scored three of Palace's six goals so far and the two games he failed to score in are their only two losses.

Brighton (+130) at Fulham (+238) - 2:30 pm ET

Score prediction: Fulham 1 - 1 Brighton

Brighton remains unbeaten and have kept three consecutive clean sheets. Fulham have scored in three of their four games, including against Arsenal and Liverpool. They are yet to lose at home this season.

Betting pick: Moneyline - Draw (+242) 0.5 units

Player to watch: Andreas Pereira

Pereira leads the team in shot-creating actions (12), is third in the team in shots (5) and has an assist to his name. With Mitrovic drawing the attention, Pereira is a sneaky option to bag a solid points return.

Chelsea (-169) at Southampton (+499) - 2:45 pm ET

Score prediction: Southampton 1 - 1 Chelsea

Southampton drew a blank for the first time on Saturday although they did everything but score. Chelsea still lacks a striker and true goal threat, especially on the road with just one away goal from their two games.

Betting pick: Total goals - Under 2.5 (+125) 0.5 units

Player to watch: Che Adams

Southampton will need to find a reliable goalscorer if they are to avoid relegation troubles and Adams continues to look like their best bet, providing the service is good. Chelsea have just one clean sheet to their name.

Everton (+235) at Leeds United (+121) - 3:00 pm ET

Score prediction: Leeds United 2 - 0 Everton

Leeds went down to a tough 1-0 loss at Brighton for their first loss of the season but have impressed and will feel unlucky not to have taken a point. Despite back-to-back draws, Everton finds themselves in the relegation zone and with just three goals scored and are yet to keep a clean sheet.

Betting pick: Moneyline - Leeds United (+121) 1 unit

Player to watch: Rodrigo

With Patrick Bamford sidelined, Rodrigo has shouldered the attack and has four goals this season. No one has had more shots than Rodrigo (18) in the league so far.

Wednesday, August 31st, 2022

Wolves (+109) at Bournemouth (+281) - 2:30 pm ET

Score prediction: Bournemouth 0 - 1 Wolves

Bournemouth's tough schedule came to an end with a 9-0 loss against Liverpool, making it 16-0 on aggregate in their last three league games. Wolves games continue to be close and they certainly don't have the firepower to give Bournemouth another whomping.

Betting pick: Half-time/full-time - Draw/Wolves (+400) 0.5 units

Player to watch: Raul Jimenez

Jimenez had a goal disallowed on Sunday and is still seeking his first goal of the season. His goals will be vital to Wolves if they are to have a successful season.

Aston Villa (+627) at Arsenal (-210) at - 2:30 pm ET

Score prediction: Arsenal 3 - 1 Aston Villa

Arsenal were taken the distance by a resolute Fulham side but remain the only team with a 100% record through four games. After losing 11 of their 19 away games last season, Villa have lost both this season by two goals and have yet to keep a clean sheet.

Betting pick: Winner/total goals - Arsenal & over 2.5 goals (+128) 1 unit

Player to watch: Martin Odegaard

The Arsenal captain has put in Man of the Match performances in his last two games, scoring three and is a constant source of threat in the final third.

Nottingham Forest (+3236) at Manchester City (-1252) - 2:30 pm ET

Score prediction: Manchester City 3 - 0 Fulham

City came from two goals down to avoid defeat for the second successive game while Forest will wonder how they lost to Tottenham on Sunday. Forest's problem is poor finishing and City will want to tighten things at the back after conceding five goals in their last two games.

Betting pick: Single game parlay - Manchester City over 1.5 goals & Nottingham Forest under 0.5 goals (-120) 1 unit

Player to watch: Erling Haaland

Haaland leads the league with six goals following his hat-trick against Crystal Palace. One of the premium strikers in world football looks like scoring every time he steps foot on the pitch.

Tottenham Hotspur (-102) at West Ham United (+278) - 2:45 pm ET

Score prediction: West Ham United 1 - 1 Tottenham Hotspur

West Ham got their first goal and points of the season at Villa on Sunday while Tottenham continues to grind out results despite not playing anything like their best. West Ham have won their last two home EPL games against Tottenham and should prove to be a tough game.

Betting pick: Draw no bet - West Ham United (+181) 0.5 units

Player to watch: Michail Antonio

Antonio was dropped on Sunday and is still searching for his first league goal of the season. He scored the only goal in this fixture last season and assuming he starts on Wednesday, is a good bet to do the same as he bids to regain a regular spot in the starting XI.

Newcastle United (+867) at Liverpool (-309) at - 3:00 pm ET

Score prediction: Liverpool 2 - 0 Newcastle United

Liverpool got their first win of the season, a 9-0 hammering of Bournemouth. Newcastle drew their third straight game and although they continue to be a tough team to beat, still haven't found a regular route to goal. Manchester City and Tottenham remain the only teams to score more than one against Newcastle in 2022.

Betting pick: Total goals - Under 3 (+117) 0.5 units

Player to watch: Mo Salah

Even though Liverpool scored nine goals, Salah didn't score nor register an assist. He'll surely put that right on Wednesday.

Thursday, September 01st, 2022

Manchester United (+107) at Leicester City (+248) - 3:00 pm ET

Score prediction: Leicester City 1 - 1 Manchester United

Leicester are rooted at the bottom of the table and only Bournemouth have conceded more than them. They have scored in every game but they continue to fall short. Manchester United found it tough going at Southampton but picked up the win, although a point would've been a fair result.

Betting pick: Total goals range - 2-3 goals (+122) 1 unit

Player to watch: Jamie Vardy

Vardy remains without a goal this season but does have two assists. With little to no transfer incoming by Leicester, the veteran will again need to carry the burden up front for Leicester.

Parlays

Moneyline: Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Wolves (+912) 0.5 units

Both teams to score: Crystal Palace/Brentford, West Ham United/Tottenham Hotspur & Leicester City/Manchester United (+415) 0.5 units

Good luck with those EPL bets and remember to bet responsibly!
