2016 Fantasy Baseball Tiered Outfield Rankings: Midseason Edition (Part 2)

Welcome back to RotoBaller's midseason rankings update. We covered the top half of the outfield yesterday. Remember, these rankings were compiled by myself, Nick Mariano, and Bill Dubiel, and any players ranked too high or low are definitely the fault of my colleagues. Assume a standard 5x5 redraft league when reading. You can also see part two of these outfield rankings and their analysis.

Be sure to also head over to our fantasy baseball rankings assistant. This handy rankings tool show you all of our staff rankings, player news, and weekly waiver wire rankings. You can easily filter, sort, and export all sorts of ranks - mixed leagues, tiers, prospects, dynasty formats, keeper values and more. It's all in one place, and all free.

Editor's Note: RotoBaller has the best Premium MLB Subscription for only $1.99 per week. We have all the tools to help win your seasonal and daily leagues: Hitter & Pitcher Streamers, Matchup Ratings for every player, Sleeper Surgers for AVG, HR, Ks, PLUS Daily DFS Cheat Sheets, Lineup Picks, Expert Lineups, Stacks and Avoids.

2016 Fantasy Baseball Midseason Rankings Analysis: Outfield (Part 2)

Tier Seven

Leonys Martin
Yasiel Puig
Corey Dickerson
Trayce Thompson
Evan Gattis
Michael Brantley
Melky Cabrera
Yasmany Tomas
Kevin Pillar
Jason Heyward
Joc Pederson
Ben Revere

Martin has cooled significantly after a hamstring injury interrupted his season. The All-Star break could be just the ticket to reverse that trend. The entire Dodgers outfield resides in this tier. Pederson would rank higher if not for a recent shoulder sprain. Thompson has also hit the skids of late, though his blend of pop and speed remains intriguing. Puig has declined every season since his spectacular debut. The talent remains obvious, but the execution simply hasn’t been there. Dickerson has predictably underwhelmed after being traded from a hitter’s haven to a pitcher’s paradise. Gattis’ value took a leap when he regained catcher eligibility, but he’s merely passable as an outfield option. Brantley’s shoulder woes have lingered, but if he’s finally healthy he could be primed for a big second half. Heyward is among 2016’s bigger disappointments, while Tomas has made legitimate strides in his second MLB season. Revere has suffered from poor batted-ball luck and will now see his playing time threatened by Trea Turner.

Tier Eight

Steven Souza
Brett Gardner
Colby Rasmus
Hunter Pence
Jayson Werth
Alex Gordon
Gerardo Parra
Steve Pearce
Cameron Maybin
David Peralta
Nick Markakis
Josh Harrison
Michael Conforto

Davis hasn’t earned much respect from my colleague Bill Dubiel, but he’s on pace for his usual 40+ steals and has hit for surprising power on top of that. Bill’s also dragged down Hunter Pence with a bearish ranking. Conforto was incredible early, then stumbled badly enough to earn a demotion to Triple-A. He shouldn’t be there for long, though. Give Moss credit for reversing the recent downward trend in his power numbers, but the ankle sprain he suffered earlier this month pushed him down a tier or two. Finally, I’d like to personally apologize to Peralta for jinxing him with all the articles I wrote about him this winter.

Tier Nine

Denard Span
Angel Pagan
Ender Inciarte
Carlos Gomez
Billy Burns
Domingo Santana
Franklin Gutierrez
Byron Buxton
Derek Dietrich
Jon Jay
John Jaso
Jarrod Dyson

I didn’t spill as much virtual ink on Santana, but he’s another pet player who hasn’t been able to get going thanks to injury problems. Meanwhile, the man he was traded for has justified my pessimistic outlook; Gomez has been one of the worst hitters in baseball even after a decent June showing. Burns, Inciarte, Buxton, and Dyson have been similarly awful. That has compromised their contributions on the basepaths, where they were expected to be assets. After a year in the wilderness, Jay has resumed being a slightly above-average hitter who offers little in the way of fantasy value.

Tier Ten

Ryan Rua
Randal Grichuk
Kevin Kiermaier
Max Kepler
Mallex Smith
Jorge Soler
Brad Miller
Jarrett Parker
Blake Swihart
Brandon Drury
Avisail Garcia
Howie Kendrick
Kolten Wong
Eddie Rosario

We’ve officially reached the “deep and AL/NL-only” portion of our program, folks. Most of the guys in this tier are part-time players and/or one-category specialists. Grichuk was recently recalled from the minors and has some upside. Kepler has come on of late and could make this ranking look foolish in a hurry. Miller plays better at the middle infield slots where he’s also eligible, but he does already have a career-best 14 home runs.

Tier Eleven

Danny Santana
Chris Owings
Tyler Naquin
Austin Jackson
Norichika Aoki
Tommy Pham
Aaron Hicks
Michael Taylor
Coco Crisp
Joey Rickard
Socrates Brito
Andre Ethier
Delino DeShields
Enrique Hernandez
Carl Crawford
Adonis Garcia
Dalton Pompey
Jeremy Hazelbaker
Brock Holt
Desmond Jennings
Anthony Gose
Rusney Castillo
Chris Coghlan
Paulo Orlando
Oswaldo Arcia
Scott Schebler

If you’ve rostered any of these players (except Naquin), it may already be too late.
