Fernando Mendoza Wins AP College Football Player of the Year
Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza has officially won the AP College Football Player of the Year Award, as reported by Indiana's official X account. The Cal transfer has led the Hoosiers to their greatest season in program history, compiling a 13-0 record and winning the Big Ten Championship over Ohio State. Mendoza has completed 71.5% of his passes for 2,980 yards, 33 touchdowns, and six interceptions this season. He's added 240 yards and six touchdowns on the ground. The 22-year-old is a Heisman Trophy finalist, and he could be the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. However, he has the chance to add even more impressive feats to his resume, as Indiana holds the No. 1 seed in the College Football Playoff. Indiana will meet Alabama or Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
