Freddie Kitchens Fired from North Carolina Coaching Staff
North Carolina has fired offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel. The Tar Heels ranked dead last in the ACC in total offense (288.8) and second-to-last in passing offense (183.5) and scoring offense (19.3) in Year 1 under head coach Bill Belichick. After a disastrous start to the season, UNC's defense showed signs of life and improvement, but its offense continued to be an issue. North Carolina scored more than 20 points just twice against conference foes. Belichick has a wide range of former assistant coaches who could be interested in joining him in Chapel Hill after he moved on from the former Cleveland Browns' head coach. Special teams coordinator Mike Priefer has also been let go.
