The Detroit Lions are building something in Michigan, and the rest of the NFL is on high alert.
A huge part of the excitement in the motor city is their quarterback, Jared Goff. If the team is going to continue the momentum they built in 2022, their quarterback is going to have to be a central piece of their puzzle.
The football world is wondering if the organization will extend its contract with Goff or keep things status quo. Let's dive a little deeper and attempt to find an answer.

Will The Lions Sign Jared Goff To A Contract Extension?
Last season the Lions finished with a 9-8 record just barely missing the playoffs, a place that haven't seen since 2016. As the year progressed though, the team seemed to gain more and more confidence and began playing like a real NFL franchise, something they haven't always resembled.
Head Coach Dan Campbell had his guys playing tough, physical, smart football for the first time in years, and many believe they are on the verge of something special in Detroit. Once a laughing stock, the Lions are now truly respected throughout the league. One big question mark, however, is the current contract situation of their signal caller.
Goff's current contract has him signed through the 2024 season, so there is no urgency to get a deal done this offseason, however, he is costing the Lions $31 million against the cap this year which will rise to $32 million next season.
How Will A Goff Extension Affect Fantasy Football?
Jared Goff is a three-time Pro Bowler and has appeared in the Superbowl once. He is clearly an established NFL QB, however, some have questioned his toughness and ability to truly lead a team all the way. With that said, Hall of Fame quarterbacks aren't a dime a dozen, and if you can find one that is above average like Goff, you probably should hang on to him.
In 2022, Goff had an outstanding season, something that should only enhance his market value. If the Lions don't extend him, another QB-needy team will surely come knocking on his door. He threw for 4,438 yards and 29 touchdowns while throwing only seven interceptions and finished last year with a 99.3 quarterback rating.
The Lions had the 5th best offense in the league last season, averaging 26.6 points per game. While Goff isn't a top-10 fantasy selection in next year's drafts, he certainly should be considered a safe pick in the middle to late rounds, and someone who can be a nice piece on your fantasy championship team.
