Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has been rumored to be on the move each of the last two offseasons, but the rumors have more substance than ever leading up to the 2023 free agency and NFL Draft.

The future Hall-of-Famer has had a terrific run in Green Bay with a Super Bowl win and a handful of NFC Championship appearances, but the team has seemingly plateaued and at age 39, Rodgers doesn't have much time left in his playing career. The Jets have emerged as a front-runner to land Rodgers should he be traded.

Will the Jets Trade for Aaron Rodgers?

Rodgers had conversations and met in person with the New York Jets and is reportedly open to the idea of playing for the franchise. While nothing is imminent, this is big news and a possible precursor to a change of scenery for the future Hall-of-Famer.

There have been reports that Green Bay is ready to move on and hopes Rodgers doesn't want to come back. Ultimately, there will be a lot more developments in this situation, but after Derek Carr signed with New Orleans, New York looks to be focusing on acquiring the 10-time Pro Bowler. The ball is in Rodgers' court moving forward.

Is Rodgers a Good Fit for the Jets?

If Rodgers is traded to the Jets, he'll instantly see a weaponry upgrade in the form of Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, Tyler Conklin, and C.J. Uzomah.

Wilson just posted a 1,000-yard season, putting him in elite company with A.J. Brown, Justin Jefferson, Ja'Marr Chase, Jaylen Waddle, and Chris Olave as wideouts since 2019 to post at least 1,000 receiving yards in their rookie season. Needless to say, the trajectory of his career is exciting. Hall was heating up to become an offensive rookie of the year finalist before he suffered a torn ACL in Week 7. Moore struggled mightily, but his quarterback play was always an issue, and he reportedly had a personal beef with former Jets' OC Mike LaFleur. When you compare this cast of play-makers to the group he had in Green Bay, he should have an easier time moving the chains and scoring points.

However, the strength of the team is on defense. In 2022, the Jet's stop-unit ranked fifth in defensive DVOA, fifth in yards allowed, second in points allowed, second in passing yards allowed, and 13th in rushing yards allowed. The defense was good enough to make a postseason run, but the quarterback revolving door of Zach Wilson, Mike White, and Joe Flacco couldn't hold up its end of the bargain.

If Rodgers joins New York, it won't be an easy path to a Super Bowl in a loaded AFC, but it's a great landing spot for an aging veteran and will make the Jets one of the most interesting teams to watch in 2023.
